This dissertation aims to design a new monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) component that may be suitable for Peruvian artisanal fishing. When it refers to suitable, it means that it should be low-cost and compatible with other MCS systems to improve the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. In this regard, through the triangulation among methods including the content analysis as well as interviews and questionnaires to the primary stakeholders of the Peruvian artisanal fishing, it was found that there is a direct connection between a suitable MCS and the fulfilment of the target 14.b of the Sustainable …

Closing The Academia-Practice Gap In Corporate Sustainability Management Research: Challenges And Bridges, Tim Breitbarth, David M. Herold
Journal of Environmental Sustainability
While corporate sustainability management research in universities has contributed to a greater understanding of sustainability, its current form has limited capacity to make a meaningful impact outside of academia. When it comes to the structures and concepts on which corporate sustainability management research is built, previous research has focused on inadequate principles and has been driven by a system that neglects solutions for real-word problems. This paper identifies four critical challenges that need to be addressed to reach the point of linking corporate sustainability management research with science and industry. Containing Risk When Maximizing Supply-Chain Performance, Harrison Luvai

The objective of this dissertation is to develop and test an approach that will quantify the level of risk in the supply chain, evaluate the cost and impact of risk mitigation strategies, validate event management protocols pre-implementation, and optimize across a portfolio of risk mitigation strategies. The research integrates a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model and a Discrete Event Simulation model to investigate a production-inventory-transportation problem subject to risk. The MILP model calculates the optimal Net Profit Contribution of the supply chain in the absence of risk. Deviation risks are introduced as volatility in final demand and lead times, …

CVS Health is one of the most valued and appreciated companies in the world. CVS and Walgreens dominate the retail drugstore landscape in the United States. This case study is built on a customer value analysis for CVS using the Customer Value Assessment Tool (CVAT). The CVAT is a means to understand and critique the four major value proposition areas -- service, quality, image and price. The company’s strong customer service philosophy as well as its retail and pharmacy marketing strategies are reviewed. Are The Recent Restatements Of Financial Institutions 10k’S Due To The Perceived Earning Volatility Caused By Sfas 161?, Veliota Drakopoulou

The goal of this research was to investigate the controversy surrounding the inability of SFAS 133 an amendment of SFAS 161 to portray the economics of hedging. This research examined whether or not BHCs’ design of hedge effectiveness tests was determined by the concern of the additional earnings volatility possibly evolved from economic hedges that do not qualify for hedge accounting. The results implicate that most BHCs after the amendment of SFAS 161 reassessed their risk management approach to one that is more accounting responsive to ensure that most hedges are highly effective to qualify for hedge accounting. Organizations are rapidly adopting new technologies and have justified their return on investment by examining new attendee rates, “click throughs” on links, and company-specific metrics. Despite advances in technology and growing consumer dependence on electronics, the meeting and events industry has been slow to adopt IT advances for fear of cannibalization. The purpose of this study was to gather foundational knowledge of how various event platforms, such as face to face and online, can affect overall event effectiveness. Section 6002 of the Affordable Care Act, also known as the “Sunshine Act,” was intended to stop corrupt practices within the medical community by requiring pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to disclose all transfers of value of a certain amount made between them and physicians. This article suggests that the better solution to stopping corrupt practices is to ban some transfers all together.

The Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG) computes customer satisfaction scores at the national, sector, sub-sector, and company levels. The CSISG serves as a quantitative benchmark of the quality of goods and services produced by the Singapore economy over time and across countries. This is the CSISG’s twelfth year of measurement.

Companies are clamoring to acquire technologies that facilitate insights and decision making at a higher level. As a result, the role of the marketing function in organizations continues to evolve. It is anticipated that marketing will continue to fundamentally change over the next couple of years due to digital transformation, analytics and mobile infusion. Unfortunately, existing talent deficiencies are a barrier to successfully realizing the potential impact from analytics. The objective of this panel session is to discuss the marketplace digital transformation, as well as the evolution of marketing analytics from descriptive and predictive to prescriptive models.
