2018 - Groundwater Management In California, Michael Hanemann

Related Research and Documents

In 2014, the California legislature for the first time took some steps to create a framework for regulating groundwater pumping in over-drafted basins by adopting the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), representing California's first statewide groundwater management planning program. SGMA called for local agencies to develop groundwater sustainability plans within the next five to seven years and then achieve sustainable levels of groundwater extraction by approximately 2040 to 2045. California's prior efforts to regulate groundwater extraction is discussed, as well as groundwater depletion.

Roger Ebert Vs. John Doe: An Examination Of The Difference In Media Reviews, Meredith Mullins Nov 2018

Roger Ebert Vs. John Doe: An Examination Of The Difference In Media Reviews, Meredith Mullins

Posters-at-the-Capitol

The purpose of this research is to examine the variation in critic and audience reviews of films and determine the cause of this variation. When reviewing a film, the ratings of critics and audience members often differ, regardless of whether they are positive or negative. This difference may arise from the unique role critics possess in this market as agents and the incentives they face. As agents of the film industry, critics have expert knowledge concerning films that audience members do not possess and therefore, they review films with a different evaluative framework than audience members. Critics may look at …

Abstract

In regions like western Kentucky where wooded lots are common there is a growing interest in how to utilize them so that land profits can be maximized. The frequently poor soils in wooded areas due to erosion and lack of ground cover vegetation often cause complications in the creation of pasture areas. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the effect of growing winter cover crops on soils to prepare for pasture systems in the …

Females Serving As The Head Coach Of Competitive Elite Male Sports, Christian Hensley

Posters-at-the-Capitol

Student-athletes’ Perceptions of females serving as the head coach of competitive elite male sports

Recent coaching employment of Becky Hammon and Kathryn Smith in the NBA and NFL inspires the discussion of the potential of witnessing the first female head coach hired in men’s professional basketball and football. Despite the presence of female leaders in many business and political realms, there still seems to be lack of gender equality in the employment of female administrators and coaches in the male dominant sports. This study investigate how women were perceived as an ideal head coach candidate in a male dominant sports …

Increasing Voter Turnout In Kentucky Elections, Luke Williams, Carter Stinnett, Mckenna Moore

GSP at Murray State University

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Due to significantly low voter participation in Kentucky elections (as low as 11% turnout in specific counties’ primary elections) the need to increase voter turnout in specific Kentucky counties and across the state has become paramount. Research and our team’s own understanding has led us to conclude that passing a bill that adds a voter education course to Kentucky high school graduation curriculum will better Kentucky democracy by increasing voter turnout.

Three Essays On Special Donation Types (Dissertation Defense Slides), Jennifer Lehman

Faculty Publications - College of Business

Much research has been conducted on charitable giving where it is analyzed as a single, undifferentiated philanthropic transfer concept. Relatively less research has explored factors associated with special donation types such as

1) bequests,

2) lifetime donations to specific cause types, or

3) the intersection of bequests and lifetime donations to specific cause types.

This dissertation provides new information addressing all three of these areas.

The Relationship Between Science And Policy, Michaela Warren May 2018

The Relationship Between Science And Policy, Michaela Warren

Senior Honors Projects

Increased human development and its adverse effects on nature require that our society establish new environmental policies to address these. The implementation and/or modification of environmental policies and regulations comes with its challenges. Evidence-based scientific discoveries play a key part in making effective environmental policy. Without access to and transmission of scientific information, environmental mangers and politicians have no basis to support regulatory changes. Similarly, scientists that do not engage with environmental managers and politicians are restricted developing their scholarly findings into active reform. Growth of environmental protection relies on managers, policy makers, and scientists being aware of each other …

A Longitudinal Analysis On The Cyclical Pattern Of The Us Airline Industry, Michelle Bennett Mar 2018

A Longitudinal Analysis On The Cyclical Pattern Of The Us Airline Industry, Michelle Bennett

Discovery Day - Prescott

The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) is the nation’s most comprehensive study of airline performance and quality for over two decades. The AQR sets the industry standard, providing consumers and industry watchers a way to compare performance quality among different US airlines using objective performance-based data (Bowen and Headley, 2014). The quantitative weighted average is computed monthly for every airline and divided by the sum of the weight to create the index. Criteria weighted in this formula include baggage handling, customer complaints, denied boarding and on time arrivals. This research employs the application of a longitudinal analysis methodology resulting in finding …

The quantitative metrics from utilizing new marketing techniques have increased the audience members attracted to this report. With a digitalized driven society, social media has been the main benefactor in gaining new attention. Continuing on the process to …

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

The current electronic personal health record (PHR) has low patient adoption [1]. Increasing use and adoption of the PHR will improve patient-centered care. Users often have difficulty remembering passwords or share them, giving multiple people access to one account.

Utilizing biometrics for authentication is becoming more common in our daily lives – think of the fingerprint sensor on a smartphone or retina scanners at high security corporations. The quickly evolving technology that runs our lives calls for incorporating biometric authentication into more systems. Using biometric authentication can ensure that passwords would not need to be remembered and that only the …
