Multivariate Analysis Of Students Perception On Teaching With Client Based And Non-Client Based Team Projects, Philip Appiah-Kubi
Engineering Management and Systems Faculty Publications
The classroom experience has evolved from traditional lecture, PowerPoint and whiteboards to a more active environment where students and instructors work together on hands-on activities to achieve the course objectives. Various names have been given to this pedagogy; experiential learning, project based learning (client based versus non-client based), active learning, and problem based learning are a handful of names used to describe this evolving pedagogy. The main challenge faced by educators in educating undergraduate students to be independent thinkers and problem solvers has been the driving force fueling the shift in pedagogy. This research looks into student’s perception on project …

Work-Related Values, Preferences, And Expectations Of Millennials: Implications For Long-Term Care Administrators, Cheryl K. Derynck
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The purpose of this research is to examine millennials’ work-related values, preferences, and expectations and to understand the impact for administrators in long-term care (LTC) facilities. Supervisors at LTC facilities must understand millennials’ work behavior, and strive to meet their needs, so as to effectively recruit, train, and retain these millennial employees. Allowing for management understanding of millennials work-related values, preferences, and expectations and how these support or detract from employment within LTC settings may pinpoint how facilities may retain these workers. This study will also provide information about work satisfaction of millennial employees and how employers can improve to …

Utilising Social Media To Improve Relationship Quality: The Case Of The University Library, Melissa N. Clark, Scott Bacon
Library Faculty Publications
As the centre of academic life at a university, the university library plays an important role in how students perceive their relationship with the university. This study analyses the effect that participation in library social media has on student perception of relationship quality with the university. The hypotheses proposed in this study were found to be substantiated: following the library on social media is positively related to a student's perception of their relationship quality with the university; students interested in multiple library services are likely to report the perception of a higher quality relationship with the university.
Cacao Together: A Model For True Sustainability In The Chocolate Industry, Kerstin Roos
Cacao Together: A Model For True Sustainability In The Chocolate Industry, Kerstin Roos
Capstone Collection
This Course Linked Capstone provides a critical analysis of the concept of sustainable development and then uses this analysis to create a social venture plan for a non-profit called Cacao Together. This capstone project will identify challenges in the sustainable use of cacao by first critiquing the mainstream sustainable development initiatives of certification schemes and corporate sustainability programs. It then offers an alternate framework through the 5 Capital Livelihood assessment tool which when applied, shows the gaps in cacao sustainability initiatives generally. I then propose a social venture that will addresses the needs of many parts of the chocolate supply …

System For Monitoring The Quality Of Services Provided By A Public Institution Based On Business Processes, Larisa A. Bulysheva, Mikhail Y. Kataev, Natalia V. Loseva
Information Technology & Decision Sciences Faculty Publications
Monitoring the quality of the services provided by public institutions is an important element in improving the effectiveness of the entire system of public services in the Russian Federation. As a rule, monitoring is associated with obtaining quantitative indicators of the level of satisfaction of citizens which characterize the quality of services provided. Monitoring results are the basis for modernizing the service management system. However, this approach allows us to evaluate only one side of the process by which a public institution renders services to the consumer of services (citizens). The other side of the issue is related to monitoring …

Use Of Decision Tree Model In Sport Management, Ceyda Mumcu, Kimberly L. Mahoney
Sport Management Faculty Publications
When individuals need to make a decision, they often face alternatives and some uncertainty. Identifying alternatives and anticipating outcomes in a systematic way provides value in better decision-making. Decision trees help to clarify the choices, risks, monetary gains, and other information involved in the decision. As a result, managers can make an informed decision when choosing the alternative that provides the best net gain and whether the net gain is worthwhile to pursue. As such, this case presents a scenario in which the sport marketing manager of the local sports commission is working with the convention center to bring a …

Value Of Arrival Metaphylaxis In U.S. Cattle Industry, Elliott James Dennis, Ted C. Schroeder, David G. Renter, Dustin L. Pendell
Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications
Although several studies have estimated economic impacts of antimicrobials for growth promotion, little is known about economic impacts of the common animal health management strategy known as metaphylaxis: administering antimicrobials to groups of animals to prevent disease. This article develops a new framework to map animal disease to producer profitability and determine societal economic impacts surrounding metaphylactic use of antimicrobials in beef cattle production. Results indicate the direct net return value of metaphylaxis to the U.S. fed cattle industry is at least $532 million. Beef producer surplus losses of $1.8 billion would be associated with eliminating metaphylaxis.

Juror Bias And Auditor Negligence: Evidence Using The Social Identity Theory, Reginald Wilson
Juror Bias And Auditor Negligence: Evidence Using The Social Identity Theory, Reginald Wilson
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
The Social Identity Theory is employed to investigate whether the negligence verdicts of jurors who strongly identify with their profession are more lenient towards auditors that identify with the profession. Social Identity Theory predicts that groups will judge others less harshly if they identify with the group, unless the violation is so egregious that it disgraces the group. A 2 x 2 between-subjects experiment manipulates jurors’ social identities and auditor effort to investigate jurors’ perceptions of auditor negligence following an audit in which there was an independence violation. Contrary to expectations, juror negligence verdicts were not significantly influenced by their …

Online Brokers: A Comparison Of Costs And Features, Raymond M. Johnson Phd, Christine M. Newman, Joseph A. Newman Phd
Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics
Many online brokers offer investors the efficient execution of security trades. Each broker has a set of costs and a bundle of features from which traders make complicated comparisons to select a broker. A way to simplify broker choice is to examine the relationship between costs and features from online brokers. If online brokers operate in an efficient market, costs should vary directly with the size and quality of features offered. And if costs vary directly with features, then the costs are a signal for features in an efficient market for online brokers. This paper compares costs and features of …

Understanding Market Inefficiency In The East Asian Region During Times Of Crisis, Lucia Morales, Bernadette Andreosso-O’Callaghan
Articles
The study of financial market efficiency has important implications in terms of global macroeconomic stability. The case of six selected East Asian stock markets (China, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea) during the Asian Financial Crisis (AFC) and Global Financial Crisis (GFC) is analysed here using a battery of well-known econometric techniques that starts with traditional unit root testing for random walk behaviour. The six countries were selected on the basis of market capitalization to offer insights into the behaviour of the most relevant markets in the region. The results show that during both crises, these markets exhibited …

Information, like any other type of property, has value to the extent that it meets the standards of relevance to the recipient. Relevance may be based in part on exclusivity, but it is also based on the reliability, resilience, and security of the information. Particularly when the information is data rather than entertainment content, these features will determine the success or failure of the enterprise. Without all three …

It is a very common, popular, and profitable method for building a national or even global brand.

This article is part of a series of book excerpts from The Entrepreneur’s Intellectual Property & Business Handbook, which provides the business, strategy, and legal reference guide for start-ups and small businesses. The FTC Franchise Rule is not the only law regulating franchise relationships. Many states also have versions of disclosure laws or laws requiring fair dealing. The states with fair dealing regulations enforce state-based legal obligations on the franchisor that cannot be modified by the contractual terms. The intersection of federal law with the array of state regulations make the issuance of a franchise complex. A company should not …

For most small businesses, the LLC provides the best choice in terms of limiting liability, providing partnership-like tax benefits, and allowing for management provisions that are narrowly tailored to the objectives of the participants. Subchapter S corporations have the same potential tax structure as the LLC and allow for the shareholders to also be managers, but the corporate laws in most states have many provisions and requirements that …
