A Survey Of Faculty Mentoring Programs In Aacsb School Of Business, Bruce C. Raymond, Vijay R. Kannan

Management Faculty Publications

The human resources management literature offers considerable evidence that mentoring programs can positively influence a variety of measures of both individual and organizational performance. This study examines the use and effectiveness of faculty mentoring programs at business schools in the United States. A survey of 118 schools accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business found that mentoring programs are the exception rather than the rule. Moreover, many existing mentoring programs lack the strategic focus and structure that are critical to program success. The U.S. Department of Labor reported that working adults with at least a four-year college degree earned an annual average salary of $63,400 compared to the $24,300 salary of high school graduates with no college. The purpose of this quantitative non-experimental study was to survey managers in the U.S. aviation industry to describe their perspective on how education has impacted them. Following a robust review of the literature, we analyzed the responses from 103 managers’ and discovered that there is a significant association between degree importance and level of education among aviation managers that has application to professional practice. This thesis researched the accuracy of demand forecasting and impact of demand variation on requirements definition for Air Force aircraft secondary items. Specifically, this thesis sought to answer three questions: How does the Air Force calculate item requirements? , How accurate is the current system at predicting future item requirements? , and How do variations in predicted demand change item requirements? The literature review described the Air Force supply system for aircraft secondary items. Analysis into current demand forecast accuracy found that the level of error between actual and predicted historic demand was as high as 92% for the items …

Bonds are typically viewed as very conservative investments with relatively simple terms. However, the industry is quite complicated and offers some higher risk securities. For example, catastrophe bonds (or "cat-bonds") have normal cash repayments to lenders, except if a pre-defined catastrophe (hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, etc.) occurs. In this event, all bond cash flows cease. For obvious reasons, these are popular among issuers in the insurance industry, and the primary buyers are hedge funds (primarily due to the higher risk/return profile such bonds offer). I’m just now getting into the World Cup as the recent sports calendar has been overloaded with prime events. With the battle for Lord Stanley’s Cup raging on, the NBA Finals testing the bounds of credulity, and the U.S. Open Golf Tournament on the menu, trying to fit the World Cup into my thoughts and my schedule was nearly too much to manage. his article discusses the importance of Joomla as a Content Management System that is used by 2.7% of the web and how a possible new malware exploit has been discovered. The PHP BASE64 malware exploit is a well-documented exploit of PHP but the implementation of this exploit as it relates to Joomla is a very ingenious method not previously used before, as far as the authors were able to discover. In this particularly case, PHP code is embedded in a GIF file to produce a very sophisticated and unique malware exploit to Joomla.

This study focused on digital media dependency, relational orientation, and demographic variables as potential factors that were relevant to the usage of social networking websites (e.g., MySpace and Facebook) among college students. A total of 258 (101 male and 157 female) students completed the questionnaire that contains the measures of digital media dependency, relational orientation, social networking media usage, and demographic characteristics. The respondents also indicated specific types of things that they disclose (post) on their social media websites. The results showed that relational orientation is positively correlated with the disclosure (posting) of family photos, friends’ photos, and travel photos …

Dr. Brooks Pond, Dr. Stacy Brown, and Dr. McKenzie Calhoun take part in the Girls in Science and Technology camp by the Department of Computing. They hosted 15 rising fifth grade "campers" at the Gatton College of Pharmacy. Each camper was able to isolate their own DNA and make it into a necklace.

Respondents to the May 2014 Survey of Nebraska Business remained positive in their outlook for sales and employment at their business. More respondents expect sales to rise (29%) than decline (17%) in the next six months. Slightly more respondents expect to add (7%) than to reduce (4%) employment. Respondents also are more focused on the market challenges facing their businesses. When asked about the most important issue facing their business, 6.5 in 10 focused on core business operations issues such as customer demand, the cost of supplies, labor quality, competition, improved business practices, and credit availability. 3.5 in 10 focused …

The integration of sustainability performance of companies is becoming increasingly important. The recent global requirements (i.e. the Kyoto Protocol) for significant reduction of the negative impact of companies on the environment over the next 6 years have been putting pressure on the companies, requiring them to lower the negative environmental impact of market performance.
