The multinational subsidiary is a unique context to study management processes relating to strategy but so far, there has not been a coherent approach identifiable in the literature. It is recognised that subsidiaries evolve over time and through their own actions and initiatives have the potential to modify the power structures of the Multinational Enterprise (MNE) but little is known about the role of the subsidiary manager in this process. Given maps of an evacuee population, shelter destinations and a transportation
network, the goal of intelligent shelter allotment (ISA) is to assign routes, exits and shelters to evacuees for quick and safe evacuation. ISA is societally important due to emergency planning and response applications in context of hazards such as floods, terrorism, fire, etc. ISA is challenging due to conflicts between movements of evacuee-groups heading to different shelters and transportation-network choke-points. Customer Intimacy is the operational model used by the three cases studied – Pick n Pay, Lyra’s Café, and Zone Fitness. Business size and entrepreneurial influence play a role in the vested interest mangers and employees have concerning their work ethic (productivity, motivation, and efficiency) and company profit/personal income. The Alliance for Background Checks in Youth Sports is a coalition of individuals, organizations, government agencies, and community businesses who advocate on the behalf of our communities’ youth and sports programs.

ABC Youth Sports asked California State Legislature to join the ranks of other states in their efforts to protect our children, and our community sports programs. We called for a state-wide policy-- Safe at School, Safe on the Field --requiring all California youth sports league chapters to operate with the same background check requirements held by California public school sports programs.

This study depicts the attitudes of Millennials toward teleworking. It seems a natural fit for a generation touted as computer literate, interested in a balance of work/ life activities and conscious of environmental issues to consider teleworking for their employment. This paper reviews major points of teleworking and Millennial perceptions. Students from a northeast liberal arts university were surveyed. The results provide important considerations for managers of this cohort.

Considering the continuously increasing availability and accessibility of 3D media and the depth camera such as Kinect, we demonstrate an innovative 3D media system called 3DME. The objective of this demo is three-fold.

First, the demo exhibits the creation of 3D images from RGB-D images. Second, 3DME allows a user to insert impressive effects to the produced 3D content. Last but not least, our demo is one of the first attempts toward advertising with 3D content.

Driver Vs. Manager Perceptions Of Commonly Used Safety Practices In Commercial Motor Vehicle Operations, Stephen M. Swartz, Matthew A. Douglas

Journal of Transportation Management

This research investigated the perceptions of Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators and Safety Professionals regarding 35 commonly implemented practices used to improve operating safety. Several differences were found in how drivers of different backgrounds rated various practices, and between the drivers and safety managers. These differences were found to be persistent even when combined with measures of safety performance and experience. Managers tended to overvalue (relative to drivers) practices related to hiring, while drivers tended to overvalue (relative to managers) practices related to company support and reward systems. U.S. rental car organizations are having to modify their business models to adapt to the new economy, which includes increased fuel costs, reduced business and leisure travel, and reduced resale of low mileage rental units. Revenue is negatively impacted due to increased maintenance as a result of higher mileage requirements placed on the rental inventory. Changes in the depreciation allowance on the rental car fleet reduced the potential value of vehicles by requiring fleet operations managers to maintain the fleets for longer periods of time. "In this study I examine the performance and sensitivity of performance to macro factors of banks headquartered in California and banks headquartered in the rest of the states in the Twelfth Federal Reserve District. I find that prior to the financial crisis which started in the fourth quarter of 2007 the non-California banks outperformed California banks; however, towards the end of the financial crisis California banks outperformed non-California banks. I also find higher macro factor sensitivities of nonCalifornia banks indicating more macro risk carried by these institutions.
