The Purpose of the Study is to investigate the current trends in the aviation industry in regards to regional jets and to examine country-level factors that can potentially explain the number of Embraer and Bombardier regional jet deliveries. Possible factors include GDP, price of crude oil, prior aircraft deliveries and the land area of receiving RJ countries.

Are Auditors' Going-Concern Evaluations More Useful After Sox?, Benjamin P. Foster, Terry J. Ward

Bankruptcy risk is a crucial factor in auditors’ decisions whether or not to modify their audit opinion based on the going-concern assumption. SOX required more extensive audit procedures than those required before its passage. More extensive audit procedures should result in more meaningful audit reports. This study examines whether the auditors’ going-concern opinion provides more useful incremental information after SOX than before SOX in distinguishing between distressed companies that become bankrupt in the next year and those that do not. We find that an audit opinion variable adds more useful information to bankruptcy prediction models after SOX than before SOX. …

Eccles Chair in Capital Markets Research, who has been asked to serve a one-year appointment as the Faculty Research Fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). This is an honor and a tribute to Jef and will enable him to return to USU with vast knowledge that will further propel his already excellent research and teaching. He will begin his appointment in Connecticut mid-summer 2012.

Agent Based Modeling And Simulation Framework For Supply Chain Risk Management, Tiffany J. Harper

This research develops a flexible agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) framework for supply chain risk management with significant enhancements to standard ABMS methods and supply chain risk modeling. Our framework starts with the use of software agents to gather and process input data for use in our simulation model. For our simulation model, we extend an existing mathematical framework for discrete event simulation (DES) to ABMS and then implement the concepts of variable resolution modeling from the DES domain to ABMS and provide further guidelines for aggregation and disaggregation of supply chain models. Translated Opinions

This Petition challenges the constitutionality of section 9A(b) of the Income Guarantee Act. The main claim the Petitions raise is that section 9A(b) establishes an absolute presumption whereby those who own or have access to the use of a vehicle shall be seen as having an income at the amount of the benefit, and thus their right to the benefit of income guarantee is revoked. It was argued that this presumption unconstitutionally infringes the right to minimal dignified human existence.

The Supreme Court sitting as a High Court of Justice granted the Petitions and declared the unconstitutionality of section 9A(b) …

Most existing ICT for development (ICT4D) literature tends to focus mainly on design, transfer and implementation issues. There is limited focus on the impact of ICT projects on development and little concrete analysis of these initiatives in terms of their long-term developmental impact. In this paper, we use Sen’s notion of capabilities as an evaluative space for ICT project assessment. We employed the freedom concepts of the capability approach to focus on the developmental impact of such projects. We based our evaluation on the Pre-paid Electricity Billing system in Nigeria. Introduction

State, Federal, and private entities produce a myriad of data about the national and state economy. Much of this data, however, is released with a substantial lag of several months up to several years. Much of the data also only reports on segments of the economy, rather than providing an overall measure of economic progress. Yet, there is a clear need for comprehensive and current measures of the economy, and current updates about the economic outlook. This information is provided at the national level by the Conference Board, which produces a leading and coincident indicator for the national economy. …

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) grew for the second consecutive month in January 2012, posting a moderate 0.51% increase. The increase in the LEI-N, which predicts state economic growth 6 months in the future, suggests that the Nebraska economy will grow at a moderate pace in mid-2012. A declining U.S. dollar, a rise in the number of airline passengers, and improving business expectations all contributed to the increase in the LEI-N in January 2012. Manufacturing hours and building permits were essentially unchanged and rising initial unemployment claims detracted from growth in the leading indicator. Looking at earlier months, …
