Performance Improvement Through Better Understanding Of Supply Chain Resilience, Amanda L. Femano
Performance Improvement Through Better Understanding Of Supply Chain Resilience, Amanda L. Femano
Theses and Dissertations
Businesses operate every day in a disruptive environment. Supply and demand uncertainty, natural disasters, global pandemics, and mishaps can all cause chaos to a supply chain’s flow. It is impossible to predict every disruption a supply chain may encounter. The best an organization can do to protect network performance is to build resilience in the supply chain and life-blood of its operations. Ensuring that a supply chain has the proper built-in mechanisms to resist and recover from disruptions is referred to as Supply Chain Resilience (SCR). While it is generally agreed that SCR can be improved through the implementation of …

The Impact Of Global Crisis On Innovation And Succession On Family Business From A Socioemotional Wealth Perspective, Lai Kuan Kim Wong
Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
The ongoing pandemic provides an invaluable opportunity to observe family businesses under extenuating circumstances, especially the Circuit Breaker which forced all non-essential workplaces to close to curb the spread of COVID-19; this in effect mandated that everyone should work from home. (Ministry of Health Singapore, 2020). This meant that for those working in intergenerational family businesses, they could also be living and working in the same confined space for an extended period. Does the accumulation of these circumstances create a phenomenon that leads to interactions that generate innovation and renew family bonds leading to succession?
Family businesses are known to …

Green Economics: Assessing The Feasibility Of A New England Green Crab (Carcinus Maenas) Fishery Through Fishermen Perspectives, William L. Walter
All Theses And Dissertations
The European green crab (Carcinus maenas) is a well-adapted invasive species that has flourished throughout coastal New England. Its arrival has caused numerous negative environmental and socioeconomic impacts, including the decline of the Maine soft shell clam (Mya arenaria) fishery. Increases in north Atlantic sea surface temperatures have simultaneously propelled the proliferation of C. maenas and caused northward shifts in the geographic ranges of commercially relevant species, including the American lobster (Homarus americanus). C. maenas represents an underutilized species that H. americanus and M. arenaria fishers can target to supplement any lost income if …

Participatory Learning: Measuring Learning And Educational Technology Acceptance, Erick Sanchez Suasnabar
Dissertations
Participatory Learning (PL) integrates several learning approaches, engaging students throughout the entire assignment process for both online and face-to-face courses. Beyond simply providing a solution, students also craft a problem (problem-based learning), grade each other (peer assessment and feedback), evaluate themselves (self-assessment), and can view others’ work (learning by example). This dissertation research explores the resulting learning effects. Contributions to both educational and Information Systems research include extending an early PL model and experiments that applied the PL approach to examinations, by validating and testing new constructs based on user activity and critical thinking. In addition, the study explores a …

Reserve Price Optimization In Display Advertising, Achir Kalra
Dissertations
Display advertising is the main type of online advertising, and it comes in the form of banner ads and rich media on publishers' websites. Publishers sell ad impressions, where an impression is one display of an ad in a web page. A common way to sell ad impressions is through real-time bidding (RTB). In 2019, advertisers in the United States spent nearly 60 billion U.S. dollars on programmatic digital display advertising. By 2022, expenditures are expected to increase to nearly 95 billion U.S. dollars. In general, the remaining impressions are sold directly by the publishers. The only way for publishers …
Constructive Solution Methodologies To The Capacitated Newsvendor Problem And Surrogate Extension, Pinyuan Shan
Constructive Solution Methodologies To The Capacitated Newsvendor Problem And Surrogate Extension, Pinyuan Shan
Dissertations
The newsvendor problem is a single-period stochastic model used to determine the order quantity of perishable product that maximizes/minimizes the profit/cost of the vendor under uncertain demand. The goal is to fmd an initial order quantity that can offset the impact of backlog or shortage caused by mismatch between the procurement amount and uncertain demand. If there are multiple products and substitution between them is feasible, overstocking and understocking can be further reduced and hence, the vendor's overall profit is improved compared to the standard problem. When there are one or more resource constraints, such as budget, volume or weight, …
Common Auditor And Supplier’S Performance, Lei Zhuang
Common Auditor And Supplier’S Performance, Lei Zhuang
Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)
I examine the effect of a common auditor in supply chain on supplier’s performance. A common auditor in supply chain is defined as the same audit firm that provides auditing services to both the supplier and the customer. As the common third party, the common auditor could transfer information between supplier and customer, which might benefit the performance of the supplier. I find that a common auditor can increase supplier’s ROA and this effect is driven by the reduction of supplier’s production cost. I also find that a common auditor can reduce supplier’s receivables conversion periods. This finding gives evidence …

Regulative Legitimacy And Entry In Working-Class Industries, Fabian Parada Diaz
Regulative Legitimacy And Entry In Working-Class Industries, Fabian Parada Diaz
Dissertations - ALL
Entrepreneurs benefit significantly from being perceived as legitimate during the venture creation process. The strategies they use to obtain legitimacy, however, change contingent on costs. Importantly, available strategies have the power to influence entrepreneurs' decisions to exploit perceived opportunities and enter the market. Within this context, I investigate the relationship between regulative legitimacy and entry. The findings from my research suggest a nuanced relationship between regulative legitimacy and entry. Specifically, my results suggest that licensing, a common type of regulative legitimacy, may not lower information asymmetries, and that its ultimate effect on entry may be contingent on its costs, and …

Asking The Experts: Perception Of The Relative Importance Of Antecedents Of Optimal Financial Behavior, Chad M. Jones
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Although there is ample research on financial behavior, the inclusion of financial planners in the sample frames of such research is rare. This study used certified financial planners (CFPs) as the sole sample population to identify antecedents of optimal financial behavior and their relative importance. Data from a nationally representative sample of 167 CFPs indicated that (a) financial literacy lost relative importance as CFP tenure increased, (b) romantic partnership closely rivaled financial literacy in importance, (c) financial literacy was more weakly correlated with romantic partnership than with the other antecedents investigated, and (d) romantic partnership was universally accepted as a …
