The syndrome of burnout is characterized by the development of negative self-perceptions and behaviors designed to protect oneself from emotional distress in a worker as a result of painful emotional stress generated by interactions between psychological demands from the work environment, personality needs of the worker, and the worker's self-perceived difficulty in meeting these demands and needs. The contributions of both environmental characteristics and personality traits to burnout levels were examined in a group of 45 intensive care nurses. Performance standards encompass information characteristics which decay over time. Consequently, it is worthwhile to identify factors affecting information decay. In Chapter I, the objectives of this study were discussed. Disenchantment with public ownership during the decade of the 1970's contributed to the emergence of a trend for publicly owned corporations to change to private ownership by deregistering under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. The primary purpose of the study was to investigate whether firms which changed to private ownership possessed attributes during the time leading to the change that differentiated them from selected firms which remained publicly held. The study considers several hypotheses: the percentage of Illinois petroleum jobbers marketing propane will increase due to the fact that propane sales increase profitability, the Illinois propane market is expanding because it is less expensive than gasoline, fuel oil sales are decreasing because propane furnace installation is cheaper than oil furnaces, and propane furnaces are less expensive to maintain and operate.

In-Store Marketing Will Sell More Brewers Beer Than Relying On Media Pull Strategy Alone, Ron Muchnick

The subject discussed in this paper is the value of using in-store marketing techniques to sell more Brewers beer than would be sold by relying solely on additional advertising. This additional advertising would in effect create what is termed media pull in motivating the consumer to buy more Brewers beer. The effectiveness of additional media support was compared to a sales promotion with reseller merchandising and display effort. This comparison was made by conducting two field experiments.

Since the DC-10 represents a large portion of the corporation's revenue, it is essential that the firm continue to sell the aircraft near previously projected rates. This has created a case of crisis marketing for the company.

The science of synthetic fuel production began in the seventeenth century. However, large-scale production of synthetic fuels started in the early 1900's and, for several decades, gas manufactured from coal significantly contributed to the U.S. economy. The production of synthetic fuels declined due to increases in the price of coal and discoveries of predominantly methane natural gas. Today, an extensive network of pipelines is used to transmit and distribute natural gas for industrial and residential applications. This study was conducted to determine the effects of employee participation on job satisfaction and productivity. A small group of hourly employees (5-7) from a package sort and load operation worked with management to identify, analyze, and solve performance problems. Four employee participation interventions were examined: 1) group problem solving of sorting performance, 2) individualized problem solving of loading performance, 3) general participation on job satisfaction, and 4) general participation on overall productivity. The results indicated that the participation program was effective in improving job satisfaction, group performance, and individual performance. The program was not effective in improving overall productivity. …

The implementation and maintenance of standards and procedures relevant to quality nutritional service in the hospital food service department is essential to effect optimal patient care. This research was conducted to determine the extent to which selected standards (activity task functions) relevant to quality assurance were being performed by hospital food service departments. The results indicated that only 14 percent of the departments performed more than 75 percent of the activity task functions. A compliance score consisting of the number of tasks performed by each food service department indicated statistically that as the years of employment increased the compliance score …

The purpose of this study was to examine the usefulness of social class as a basis for deriving target markets among elderly consumers. Using the retirement communities of Bella Vista and Hillcrest in Bentonville and Fayetteville, Arkansas, respectively, four social class groupings were derived. The social class groupings were obtained via the Hollingshead Three-Item Index of Social Position. Three of the hypotheses were developed in a manner to assess buyer behavior for prepurchase information acquisition, purchase decision choice criteria, and post-purchase degree of satisfaction for limited problem-solving types of purchases. In all instances the null hypotheses could not be rejected. …
