Self-managed teams in business and industry are groups of workers assigned to perform a complete function in the operation of their company. ream members, when well-trained and multi-skilled, are flexible enough to rotate between positions as needed and to perform the various tasks which compose the complete function. The teams are autonomous, in that they manage themselves. Team leaders are resource persons, not directors. The organizations in which they are used are flat (managerial-wise) since little middle management is required.

The Islamic economy is the subject of this thesis, which reviews the basic foundations of this system. The main idea under discussion is the implication of monetary and fiscal policy in an Islamic economy framework. This analysis shows how the positively sloped IS and LM curves can be achieved. Two known compression algorithms appropriate for communication are the LZW algorithm and the Arithmetic Coding method. Both algorithms are adaptive and require no extra communication from the encoder to the decoder. We present a scheme to cascade these algorithms into an adaptive algorithm which achieves higher compression ratio and is appropriate for communication.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between head nurse (HN) leadership behavior and head nurse and staff nurse (SN) job satisfaction and burnout in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The two target populations for this study were: ICU HNs and ICU SNs. A sample of 10 HNs and 65 SNs completed four questionnaires. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the continuous instability of policy decisions relating to the effectiveness of Civilian Conservation Centers and Contract Centers was a result of measurable differences in performance between the two models. Six hypotheses tested differences between types of centers on six quantitative variables which were: average length of stay, job placement, hourly starting wages, educational gains in reading, math, and General Educational Development (GED). To investigate the problem, 30 Civilian Conservation Centers and 17 comparably sized Contract Centers were selected. The primary technique used to achieve this objective is the use of competition - recently for maintenance requirements not previously subjected to competition. One such maintenance requirement is the periodic overhaul of one of the Navy's front line fighter aircraft - the F-14A Tomcat. In this study, a comprehensive set of successful marketing strategies and tactics for the recruitment of Mexican-Americans into four-year colleges and universities was identified. A taxonomy of findings ranging from very successful to not successful was developed. The methodology included focus groups conducted in Los Angeles, California and San Antonio, Texas to aid in the creation of survey instrument items. The resulting survey was mailed to admissions directors of four-year colleges and universities located in the six southwestern states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas.
