This thesis will focus on the study of developing effective tutorial documentation.

In the past, computer documentation was written almost exclusively by engineers and programmers (or other highly trained personnel). Because of this, it was referential rather than tutorial, and it tended to assume the audience had a high level of technical knowledge and expertise. People using computers today come from a wide variety of backgrounds, many of them not technical. These users need tutorial manuals that are written in every day language and that emphasize what the user does, not what the machine or the program does.

The Farmer's Holiday Association (FHA) was a short-lived phenomenon in Depression-era history. It arose out of the National Farmers Union, the most powerful farm organization of the immediate post-World War I era. While the main goal of the FHA was noble, cost of production guarantees were probably unattainable. Additionally, the method used try and attain this goal was questionable. The problem under investigation. This dissertation analyzed philanthropic donations and fund-raising behavior in children's museums. The research embodies a descriptive, inductive, and deductive study which infers that philanthropic donations increase gradually and are influenced by an organization's fund-raising behavior.

The subjects. A stratified random sample of 15 small, 47 medium, and 20 large U.S. children's museums were surveyed; operating budgets determined museum size.

The methodology. Time-series statistical techniques and economic data measures calculated the change in children's museum philanthropic donations from 1990-1994. The introduction of an accounting standard requiring government departments to replace fund-type, cash-based accounting statements with business-type, accrual based accounting statements has led to criticism that business-type, general purpose financial statements do not take account of the information requirements of major users.
