The just-in-time (Jl'T) inventory management system is one which requires frequent deliveries ofmaterials, in fairly small quantities to the manufacturer, just in time for use in the manufacturing process. Since the introduction of this system by the Japanese in the 1980s, many U.S. firms have adopted the JfT philosophy in order to compete effectively with their Japanese counterparts. The purpose of this particular study is to ascertain whether the adoption rate of the Jl'I' system is high among Baton Rouge companies, and whether the companies that had not adopted the Jl'T system, planned to in the future.

Research supports that the automotive industry is continuously focusing on the reduction of structural costs. Mexico's economic crisis of the early 1980s eventually led this country to adopt a new economic strategy. Mexico has opted for an export-based development strategy where governmental policies focus on creating an environment attractive to foreign investors. These policies have succeeded in attracting foreign direct investment to Mexico in record levels since 1987, predominately to the U.S.-Mexico border region. I argue in this dissertation, however, that these FDI flows have impeded small business growth and entrepreneurial drive along Mexico's northern border.

The problem of bias in the employment interview for applicants with disabilities was addressed with research to identify if a decision aid can increase the decision making accuracy of interviewers. A survey designed to allow participants to rate applicants with five disabilities for three jobs (with three essential functions listed for each job) was used to assess rating accuracy of two groups. Participants who received the decision aid in the form of a Guide to Interviewing People with Selected Disabilities were expected to have more rating accuracy than those participants without access to the Guide. The growth of the convenience industry suggests that time-scarce consumers represent an important potential target market for firms that offer time and/or effort saving attributes in their product offerings. The research contained herein addresses a gap in the marketing literature by examining a proposed series of relationships involving household expenditures for "convenient services." Although consumers find it difficult to evaluate the quality of healthcare services in general and dental services in particular, they do make such evaluations. The most widely accepted measurement scale for service quality is SERVQUAL (Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry 1988). A more parsimonious alternative to SERVQUAL, SERVPERF, has also been developed (Cronin and Taylor 1992). Previous research comparing these two scales in the setting of adult patients of general dentists concluded that SERVPERF accounts for significantly more of the variance in perceived service quality than does SERVQUAL (McAlexander, Kaldenberg and Koenig 1994). In many cases, recruiting stations are geographically isolated from military bases, with recruiters often tolerating a high cost of living, crime, and other such adverse conditions that characterize the communities they work in. The National Air Intelligence Center (NAIC), like many Department of Defense (DoD) and civilian organizations, has been forced to undergo budget and manpower reductions. This year's resource allocation decision requires NAIC to identify both contracts and personnel to be cut. In order to reduce the amount of time and subjectivity involved in this important decision, a resource allocation model was developed to compare different alternatives. This model uses decision analysis with value-focused thinking to quantify the resultant impact of the chosen cuts. This dissertation studies the effect of implementing everyday low purchase price policy (EDLPP) for a manufacturer in consumer non-durable market. In the framework, many .important retailer and consumer behaviors are considered. A major finding of the study is that temporary price discount (a Hi-Lo policy) is generally unprofitable to the manufacturer because the sales increase due to the discount is usually offset by the decreased profit margin and increased total production and inventory related costs. Another important finding is that the retailer plays a critical role as an active middle agent.
