The effect of both public and private verbal recognition on intrinsic motivation and sales performance in fourteen restaurant waitstaff was evaluated using organizational behavior modification techniques. The hypothesis that public recognition would be more effective than private recognition in increasing intrinsic motivation and sales was not supported.

The purpose of this action research project was to assess and understand the existing Personal Development Process at CU and identify and mitigate the causes of the confusion and variations in implementation of this tool. A collaborative group utilized questionnaires, focus groups, and a pilot process to diagnose the extent of the problem. The collaborative group with the help of the organization's employees designed and implemented interventions, and evaluated the project. The project results yielded an employee personal development tool which was used organization wide for 4 years.

The Regis University Alumni and Parent Relations Department reaches out to generations of former students, and with University growth the challenge of this continually increases. Ways the Department can enhance support to graduates of the Rueckert-Hartman School for Health Professions (RHSHP) were explored through varied media. The action research included interviews, an alumni survey, consultation with sister Jesuit schools, and review of secondary literature specific to the topic of alumni associations and organizational change. This dissertation examines backsourcing of corporate IS activities, and why IS outsourcing clients decide to backsource. Information Systems (IS) backsourcing is a business practice in which a company takes back in-house assets, activities, and skills that are part of its IS operations and were previously outsourced to one or more outside information service suppliers. Focusing on economic, strategic and relationship motives, a number of theoretical backsourcing factors is derived from transaction cost theory, agency theory, core competency perspective, IOR theory and marketing channels literature. In the 'passing the baton' succession process, the incumbent CEO/Chairman relinquishes the CEO title, but retains the Chairman title to facilitate monitoring the new CEO during a probationary period. The new CEO eventually wins the Chairman title if he is successful during the probationary period. We argue that this type of succession process can lead to managerial conformism and conservatism because reputation concerns give the retiring CEO incentives to pressure the new CEO to continue existing policies and to avoid making major changes that could substantially improve performance or increase firm value. Consistent with this hypothesis, we find no changes …

This study was designed to examine the teaching perspectives, teaching preparation, previous teaching experiences and involvement in faculty development activities among faculty from a research extensive university in the southern United States. A simple random sample of 536 was drawn from the institution's faculty and total of n=131 (24.4%) responded to the survey. Respondents were asked to complete the Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) via the internet and complete a survey which included questions regarding demographic variables, teaching preparation, previous teaching experience, and involvement in faculty development activities. This research effort was intended to identify the non-medical job skills projected to be needed by in-home paraprofessional caregivers of today and beyond as indicated by a Delphi panel of caregiving experts from public and private business areas as well as academia. Thirty Delphi participants were selected based on a qualifying questionnaire. Actual respondents, however, numbered 29 for Round 1, 24 for Round 2 and 23 for Round 3.
