Leader Impact On Vision/Mission, Patricia Davis Aug 2018

Leader Impact On Vision/Mission, Patricia Davis

Dissertations

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to identify and describe the lived experiences of how a subsequent human social services nonprofit leader navigates, negotiates, and/or modifies the original vision/mission of the founding leader. Subsequent leaders for this study included leaders in place after the founding leader moved on. In the world of nonprofit organizations, leadership changes are as common as in the for-profit field but hold additional challenges regarding what drives the organization. For profit businesses bottom line is profit, and nonprofit organizations have a bottom line of changed lives, two very different reasons for being in business. The …

Primary data sources included interviews with leaders and teachers, observations of classrooms and public spaces, and document reviews in each school. Data were analyzed both within each school and across the …

Morality In Organizations: Ethics, Meaning, And God At Work, Elizabeth Ann Luckman Aug 2018

Morality In Organizations: Ethics, Meaning, And God At Work, Elizabeth Ann Luckman

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation explores morality in organizations through three distinct research projects. In Chapter 1, I begin to examine a century of business ethics research conducted across business functions in order to bridge the silos of research and teaching that have evolved over time. Preliminary findings suggest that the field of management has produced comparatively more business ethics research than other functions, and that marketing and accounting have examined the ethical implications of their professional responsibilities. Chapter 2 examines the effect of meaning at work on unethical behavior. Through three studies, I find evidence to suggest that individuals with a stronger …

Supply Chain Design, Operational Capabilities, And Firm Performance: The Role Of Internal And External Environment, Kuldeep Singh

Information Systems & Operations Management Dissertations - Archive

Supply chain agility has been the cornerstone of research in supply chain management field. Through the theoretical lens of strategy, structure, performance paradigm, knowledge-based view, and contingency theory, this research examines the linkages from agile supply chain strategy to mass customization capability (MCC), and operational ambidexterity (OA). This study also examines the association between MCC, …

The Impact Of South-South Fdi : Knowledge Spillovers From Chinese Fdi To Local Firms In The Cambodian Light Manufacturing Industries, Pisey Vicheth Aug 2018

The Impact Of South-South Fdi : Knowledge Spillovers From Chinese Fdi To Local Firms In The Cambodian Light Manufacturing Industries, Pisey Vicheth

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

The study of the extent to which incoming FDI results in ‘spillovers’ (technology, R&D, management practices and know-how) has so far yielded only mixed results, and research has largely been restricted to north-north and north-south interactions; this study develops a model of knowledge spillovers based on previous literature and extends inquiry into south-south FDI by investigating spillovers from Chinese FDI to the Cambodian garment and light manufacturing industries. Several significant factors including the nature and extent of FDI linkages, local industry absorptive capacity, nature of the network relationship, and local firms’ learning orientation have been found to influence the extent …

Paving The Way For Merleau-Ponty’S Eye And Mind In Organizational Communication Studies, Johan Bodaski Aug 2018

Paving The Way For Merleau-Ponty’S Eye And Mind In Organizational Communication Studies, Johan Bodaski

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The body is a sense-based medium that creates and interprets organizations. Bodies create organization. An aesthetic theory of organizational communication reveals the significance of the body to the organization. Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy of aesthetics offers a theory of aesthetic organizational communication that is yet to be developed. Merleau-Ponty’s aesthetic essay on painting, Eye and Mind, describes the body as the medium through which painters turn the world into painting. His philosophy of painting builds bridges between aesthetics, the body, and organizational communication.

In chapter one, four theories of organizational communication are described: communication constitutes organization (CCO), text/interpreter, ventriloquism, and …

Exploring Spirituality And Affective Commitment As Antecedents To Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Elva A. Resendez

Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of my study is to investigate the relationships between workplace spirituality, individual spirituality, affective commitment, and organizational citizenship behavior. My literature review resulted in the following research question: If workplace spirituality and individual spirituality are inherent in organizations and individuals, what is their relationship to employees’ workplace behavior? Three testable hypotheses are examined in hopes of identifying and developing practical and scholarly applications of OCB’s and developing the roles of individual spirituality and workplace spirituality as distinct assets in the general business culture: (1) the moderating effect of workplace spirituality in the relationship between individual spirituality and …

Unintended Consequences Of The Dodd-Frank $10 Billion Asset Size Threshold, Laura Camille Alford Aug 2018

Unintended Consequences Of The Dodd-Frank $10 Billion Asset Size Threshold, Laura Camille Alford

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The 2010 Dodd-Frank Act (DF) created asset size thresholds associated with considerable costs. Avoidance of these thresholds has changed the distribution of banks and created a discontinuity around $10 billion in total assets. The thresholds create incentives for managers below the thresholds to stifle asset growth. This study examines loan sales and securitizations, marketable securities, and the allowance for loan losses account as methods of slowing growth, and also tests for unintended consequences of suboptimal asset shifting on risk, regulatory ratings, and earnings quality. Results demonstrate that post DF, slow growing private financial institutions (FIs) just below the threshold increase …

Customer Perspectives On Sales Strategies: A Relational Approach, Juliana Catherine White Aug 2018

Customer Perspectives On Sales Strategies: A Relational Approach, Juliana Catherine White

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Relationship marketing strategies have long been known to affect salespeople and the customers they serve. The final dataset (n = 206) included customers’ observations about their salesperson and perceptions of relationship quality. The key findings suggest that the perceived quality of …

Developing A Mixed-Methods Method To Model Elderly Health Technology Adoption With Fuzzy Cognitive Map, And Its Application In Adoption Of Remote Health Monitoring Technologies By Elderly Women, Noshad Rahimi

Dissertations and Theses

Providing healthcare to the ever-rising elderly population has become a severe challenge and a top priority. Emerging innovations in healthcare, such as remote health monitoring technologies, promise to provide a better quality of care and reduce the cost of healthcare. However, many elderly people reject healthcare innovations. This lack of adoption constitutes a big practical problem because it keeps the elderly from benefiting from technology advances. The phenomenon is even more pronounced among elderly women, who represent the majority of the elderly population.

A plethora of studies in the field of technology adoption resulted in sound, but highly generalized theories …
