The Impact Of Recruitment And Selection Strategies On Organizational Performance And Employee Productivity, Kenneth R. Sisneros

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Formalized labor management and practices, such as employee recruitment and selection, are among the core functions of any organization's human resource department. While human labor has seen significant milestones since World War II, HR managers struggle to identify the best strategies to use in recruiting and selecting applicants in the midst of increased demand for high-quality hires in most organizations. As such, this flexible, qualitative case study research aimed to examine the relationship between selection and recruitment strategies and the performance of organizations in the hospitality industry. In particular, the case study sought to explore the recruitment and selection techniques …

A Multilayer, Multimethod Web And Language Accessibility Analysis Of U.S. Nonprofit Organization Websites: Considerations For The Marketing And Promotion Of Online Giving, Alicia Mason, Lauren Baldwin, Tatum Ahring

Faculty Submissions

In lieu of recent declines in individual giving to US nonprofits focused on social causes, education, environment, and animal welfare, this study examines the web and language accessibility of US nonprofit websites. By examining potential accessibility design barriers, we seek to understand whether US nonprofit organizations are limiting their outreach to online donors, specifically persons with disabilities (PwDs). Nonprofit websites were systematically and randomly sampled from Charity Navigator's Alphabetical Listing of the Top 1000 Most Visited Charities database. Using a multimethodological approach consisting of manual verification and computer-automated analysis techniques, we assess the web and language accessibility of leading US …

Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Faculty Publications and Presentations

Developing nations like Bangladesh are particularly vulnerable to poultry diseases, notably Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Adopting biosecurity approaches that assist farms in disease control and prevention can decrease the industry-wide dissemination of infectious diseases. In light of these factors, this study was carried out to investigate the implementation of biosecurity practices on layer farms in Bangladesh. Using a stratified random sample method, a total of 315 layer farms from fourteen upazilas (sub-districts) in seven districts were surveyed using a semi-structured interview schedule. The study explored layer farmers' experiences with biosecurity procedures adopted on farms that included equipment, employees, and visitors. …

[Abstract And Associated Excel File For] Quickly Generated Binomial Tree Applications For Options And Var In Excel Without Vba, Tom Arnold, C. Mitchell Conover, Joseph Farizo, Nancy Tran

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Combining Excel’s =LAMBDA and =MAKEARRAY functions allows for the creation of user-defined functions for producing large binomial trees in less than a second.

Further applications of the user-defined functions allow for very quick valuations of European and American style options with large binomial trees. Applying similar techniques allows for the calculation of value-at-risk (VaR) measures.

Because the binomial tree has a certain structure, a ratio can be computed that determines how the portfolio is performing through time relative to the VaR calculation. A high (low) ratio relative to the amount of the time horizon that has elapsed indicates …

[Associated Excel File For] Facilitating Portfolio Construction Using Ex-Ante Information Ratios And Maximum Sharpe Ratios, Tom Arnold, Joseph Farizo, David S. North

Investors should consider Sharpe ratios and correlations together when adding a new fund to their existing portfolio. The ex-ante information ratio (also known as the appraisal ratio) is effective in informing this decision. However, a maximum Sharpe ratio calculation is equally effective in this decision while providing the additional benefit of producing optimal portfolio weights for the combined portfolio. In this paper, we demonstrate how to compute these measures to help facilitate portfolio construction.

Gotta Take My Avatar Shopping: Impacts Of Interactive Virtual Shopping In Esport, Yongjin Hwang, Keshav Gupta

Faculty Publications

Purpose

Esports game developers are incorporating interactive virtual shopping (IVS) experiences into their products to facilitate consumer–brand interactions. Despite the potential influence of IVS, existing research lacks an understanding of its impact on consumers’ overall affect– particularly game enjoyment, a critical factor in sustaining engagement with esports products – and on attitudinal change toward brands in the real world.

Design/methodology/approach

An experiment was designed to examine the impact of shopping in the virtually interactive esports marketplace on game enjoyment. Mediating effects of positive change in brand attitude, perceived realism and character attachment and the moderating effect of self-avatar gender congruity …

Exploration Of Designing An Automatic Classifier For Questions Containing Code Snippets—A Case Study Of Oracle Sql Certification Exam Questions, Hung-Yi Chen, Po-Chou Shih, Yunsen Wang

Department of Accounting and Finance Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This study uses the Oracle SQL certification exam questions to explore the design of automatic classifiers for exam questions containing code snippets. SQL’s question classification assigns a class label in the exam topics to a question. With this classification, questions can be selected from the test bank according to the testing scope to assemble a more suitable test paper. Classifying questions containing code snippets is more challenging than classifying questions with general text descriptions. In this study, we use factorial experiments to identify the effects of the factors of the feature representation scheme and the machine learning method on the …

Bridging Taste And Health: The Role Of Machine Learning In Consumer Food Selection, Saroj Adhikari, Brandon R. Mcfadden

Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Faculty Publications and Presentations

Navigating the modern food landscape is complex, often leading consumers to make suboptimal dietary choices due to information, time constraints, and psychological vulnerabilities. Machine learning (ML) presents a promising solution to enhance the contemporary grocery shopping experience by providing personalized dietary recommendations tailored to individual preferences and characteristics. Traditional methods of dietary guidance cannot account for nuanced consumer characteristics and preferences. In contrast, ML algorithms can incorporate specific information about individuals and continuously adapt to provide personalized recommendations, considering factors like historical eating habits, socio-demographics, nutritional requirements, etc. This paper explores the potential value of ML in enhancing personalized dietary …

We Need Deep Theories Of Virtues: Four Principles For Advancing Research On Virtues In Positive Social Science, David S. Bright, Jason M. Stansbury, Bradley A. Winn

Marketing and Strategy Faculty Publications

This article aims to help Positive Social Science (PSS) researchers develop theories of virtues, whether of single, discrete virtues, or several virtues considered together. We argue that a weak virtue theory assumes a virtue consists of single constructs, whereas a deep virtue theory assumes a virtue is an integrated system of constructs. We briefly review indicators of weak theory in the PSS literature: definitional divergence, valence confusion, and conceptual incommensurability. Drawing from the field of Virtue Ethics, we suggest four essential attributes of a virtue that should guide the development of deep virtue theory. Any virtue is (1) holistic, in …
