Modeling and optimizing the performance of a mix of slot machines on a gaming floor can be addressed at various levels of coarseness, and may or may not consider time-dependent trends. For example, a model might consider only time-averaged, aggregate data for all machines of a given type; time-dependent aggregate data; time-averaged data for individual machines; or fully time dependent data for individual machines. Fine-grained, time-dependent data for individual machines offers the most potential for detailed analysis and improvements to the casino floor performance, but also suffers the greatest amount of statistical noise. While numerous studies have been done on the gambling habits of the Millennial Generation, we can learn much about their reaction to gambling through an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates insights from demography, cultural anthropology, history, sociology and other fields. In particular, an analysis of formative experiences and how they differ from previous generations tells us much about their gambling behavior and attitudes. In addition to a discussion of key findings, the presentation will focus on the implications of these findings for the gambling industry and for programs that raise awareness of, prevent, and treat gambling problems.

A recent systematic review of population studies conducted over the last 12 years indicated that 57.5% of individuals meeting criteria for a gambling disorder have a comorbid substance use disorder, 60.1% a nicotine dependence, 57.5% a mood disorder, and 37.4%, any anxiety disorder. In a proportion of these, the comorbid condition predates the onset of gambling disorders suggesting these might represent a vulnerability factor. These findings suggest important implications for gambling prevention and treatments. Instead of promoting only gambling specific interventions and treatments, the emphasis needs to be on a more holistic approach that includes screening for and treating comorbid …

Recent world events have reemphasized the importance of controlling and reporting of terrorism financing – one of the major reasons for National and International Anti Money Laundering procedures since the early 1980’s.

Although initially focused on commercial banking operations, casinos have been brought under the scope of that legislation since 1990 – as “money service businesses.” The explosive growth of the Macao casino business on the world gaming since 1995 has led to implementation of new rules for the casinos operating in that jurisdiction.

In 2013 the ECA launched a project among its members concerning Responsible Gaming. A Working Group headed by Prof. Hoscher a Board Mamber of Casinos Austria AG was formed. The members where Resposnible Gaming Experts fom the different companies and associations within the ECA network.

The Purdue Boiler Out Volunteer Program, which is coordinated through the International Programs Office, provides international and American students with meaningful community service projects that reflect its three core values of Outreach, Understanding, and Teamwork. As a semester-long, application-based program, Boiler Out accepts a cohort of approximately 200 Purdue students from over 30 countries every fall, spring, and (soon to be implemented) summer. Creative Activity and Research Day - CARD

This study investigates the effects of career motivation in NCAA Division II athletic administrators’ advancement to Division I. We specifically identified gender and current position within an athletic department as variables. The entire population of Division II athletic administrators at the assistant athletic director level or higher was surveyed, accumulating a total of 327 responses. Male (p=0.035) and assistant/associate administrators (p=0.013) are more likely to accept a similar or elevated role at the Division I level. This study is relevant to current and aspiring collegiate athletic administrators across all subdivisions who are looking to advance in their respective careers.

Many companies train employees on writing emails in seminar-style training sessions. However, in-person, seminar-style trainings are costly. This study aims to create a training program, rooted in the science of training to address these needs. We examine the mechanisms of action by which the training influences performance and intent to transfer. To do this, we call upon several models of training effectiveness (see Alliger, Tannenbaum, Bennett, & Traver, 1997; Baldwin & Ford, 1988; and Kirkpatrick, 1959). Taken together, these models suggest that individual differences will predict affective reactions, which will lead to utility reactions, ultimately leading to learning. We aim …

This study was conducted to determine the impact of the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality assessment on team success in the workplace. This was achieved through the collection of qualitative data by way of interviews from individual employees and teams about their perceptions of how their behavior changed since taking the MBTI. The study aimed to give insight into how teams function once they have taken a personality assessment and if they had improved self-awareness, reduced conflict, and prove better at accomplishing a given task. The purpose of this research is to examine if consumer confidence plays a role in explaining the financial performance of firms in the hospitality industry. Previous research has shown that consumer confidence has predictive power in forecasting future changes in household spending, and personal consumption growth in the US. Our findings are derived from regression analysis using the Fama-French Five Factor Model, which captures all variations of expected market returns. In order to adequately capture significant findings, we separated abnormal returns into pre-recessionary, recessionary, and post-recessionary time periods.
