Mapping Pressure Points In The U.S. Healthcare System: A Stakeholder Analysis Of Healthcare Industries And Healthcare Cost Inflation, Gabriella Rizzo

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Compared to other high-income countries, U.S. healthcare has similar utilization rates but much higher costs, and with mixed results on quality measures (Papanicolas, Woskie, & Jha, 2018). These patterns have led to ongoing national discussions about how to make healthcare affordable for patients. A better understanding of industry dynamics involved in rising healthcare costs could be instrumental in creating realistic solutions to control them. However, consideration of healthcare spending tends to ignore how complex interrelatedness of healthcare industries contributes to the problem of healthcare cost inflation. The nature of these network connections has vital implications for industry commitment to solving …

Psycho-Physiological Reactions To Automated Leadership, Seth Hackleman

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

We all remember the 2008 Disney Pixar film Wall-E. This amazing children’s movie highlights the relationship between two robots and a human pilot on a mission to save the planet. Advances in artificial intelligence and computer technology are enabling new and exciting opportunities for humans to interact with machines. Where humans often change jobs or inevitably retire, machines can be employed for lifetimes. This fact makes them prime candidates for replacing human leaders in some circumstances to avoid the knowledge loss that can occur when a human leader changes position or no longer works in an organization. While human-to-human leadership …

Business Value Creation Through Open Source Engagement, Vinod Kumar Ahuja

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

In open source software development, individuals voluntarily contribute to the development of software. Recently, corporations like Microsoft, IBM, and others invest in open source by making their proprietary software freely available, by providing funding, and by dedicating their full-time employees to work in open source projects. This raises questions such as: Why do corporations dedicate money and resources to open source? What do they gain from it? How does this add value for their business? In sum, how do they make money engaging in open source? Literature provides various business models that companies adopted for their engagement in open source, …

Agile software development is a popular approach which focuses on creating (small) working pieces of software in iterations. One of the major benefits is that it allows the customer to provide feedback and change requirements during the development phase. The enhanced and transparent collaboration with the customer therefore leads to outcomes that better match their specifications, which can save time and money when compared to traditional approaches, such as plan-driven development.

Another new paradigm is the Internet of Things (IoT), which is starting to become one of the largest technological industry segments worldwide. With the rise of agile software development, …

The Effect Of Two Types Of Workload Assignment On Productivity, Performance, And Stress, Christopher Winchester Mar 2019

The Effect Of Two Types Of Workload Assignment On Productivity, Performance, And Stress, Christopher Winchester

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

The importance of employees within a firm has led to an increased need in maximizing performance and productivity, while also minimizing the stress levels of employees. This study provides insight into two types of workload assignment of (1) receiving a task all at once, or (2) receiving a task broken up. It investigates how matching subjects’ workload assignment preference (WAP) can impact performance, productivity, and stress levels. The results showed that there was an even split in workload assignment preference across the population, and that employees who received a task based on their preferred type of workload assignment improved in …

Use Of Exploratory Data Analysis And Visualization In Identification Of Commingled Human Remains, Vivek Bhat Hosmat

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

The field of Exploratory data analysis and Visualization is revolutionizing the way we perceive things. At times, Visualization is seen as a subset of Exploratory data analysis and then there are branches in Visualization, types, technologies, tools which makes one feel that Visualization is a standalone pillar. Either way, they both work well together to extract meaningful information from almost any kind of data. These fields can very well be the stepping stone for in-depth or conclusive research. They can direct research based on facts and observations rather than one’s intuition or even a brute force technique. This project was …

The current electronic personal health record (PHR) has low patient adoption [1]. Increasing use and adoption of the PHR will improve patient-centered care. Users often have difficulty remembering passwords or share them, giving multiple people access to one account.

Utilizing biometrics for authentication is becoming more common in our daily lives – think of the fingerprint sensor on a smartphone or retina scanners at high security corporations. The quickly evolving technology that runs our lives calls for incorporating biometric authentication into more systems. Using biometric authentication can ensure that passwords would not need to be remembered and that only the …

The Effect Of Relevant Responses From Conversational Agents On Behavior During Deception, Nikhit Adusumilli Mar 2018

The Effect Of Relevant Responses From Conversational Agents On Behavior During Deception, Nikhit Adusumilli

UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair

Conversational agents (CAs) are an integral component of many personal and business interactions. Many recent advancements in CA technology have attempted to make these interactions more natural and human-like. The influence of these elements of CA design on human behavior is currently unclear. It is possible that a more humanlike CA could change people’s behavior in ways that make deception detection more difficult. This research investigates one CA design factor: conversational relevance. We show that relevant responses make people slow down when responding to questions, and causes a different response when lying than when telling the truth.
