More than a decade ago, Lowry & Turner (2005) provided evidence-based recommendations regarding what students of information systems (IS) management education should learn and how should they learn it. Although their recommendations for how IS management should be taught remain valid, these recommendations need to be updated to account for recent advances in technologies that enable multimedia learning. Promoters of such technologies promise enhanced cognitive and behavioural outcomes, but this promise remains unreached, reflecting the underdeveloped literature of multimedia-enabled learning. Online health interaction (OHI) is an effective and increasingly popular method for patients to access health information. Extant literature overlooks such service users’ satisfaction derived from online interactions and the measurement of OHI processes. Based on the relational communication literature and the features of OHI, the present study proposes three dimensions to conceptualize the success of OHI processes (i.e., interaction depth, information intensity, and time breadth) and explores the association between these interaction processes and service satisfaction. Background and aims: Perceived stress has been regarded as a risk factor for problematic social networking site (SNS) use, yet little is known about the underlying processes whereby confounding variables may mediate or moderate this relationship. To answer this question, this study examined whether depression and anxiety mediated the relationship between perceived stress and problematic SNS use, and whether these mediating processes were moderated by psychological resilience and social support. Methods: Participants were 641 Chinese college students who completed anonymous questionnaires measuring perceived stress, depression/anxiety, psychological resilience, social support, and problematic SNS use. A Playable Case Study (PCS) is a hybrid learning experience where students (1) participate in a fictional narrative that unfolds through an immersive, simulated environment and (2) engage in classroom activities and lessons that provide educational scaffolding and promote metacognition through in-game and out-of-game experiences. We present the Microcore PCS to illustrate the potential of this new type of experiential simulation that incorporates aspects of Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) to increase immersion and teach workplace literacies in the technical communication classroom. This article contributes to current conversations about transfer, specifically how WAC courses can encourage vertical transfer (Melzer). The authors draw on research in learner development that demonstrates how a threaded curriculum approach helps students learn concepts and skills and apply that knowledge in multiple contexts. Additionally, a threaded curriculum can incorporate pedagogical elements that have been linked to effective transfer, such as abstract conceptualization and metacognition. The authors present an instructional model for sequenced writing courses that leverages this research and moves away from disconnected writing courses. Compassion is often an important characteristic of effective employees in the workplace. To measure improvements in employee compassion, identify shortcomings, and even screen applicants, researchers and practitioners have sought reliable measures of compassion. Measuring compassion, however, can be very difficult because people are hesitant reporting a lack of compassion, due to their desire to be viewed favorably by others. We draw on the domain of human-computer interaction to help address this issue. Namely, we propose a theoretically-grounded methodology for helping differentiate between high and low compassion by monitoring users’ mouse-cursor movements in specialized online surveys. Adherence to security warnings continues to be an important problem in information security. Although users may fail to heed a security warning for a variety of reasons, a major contributor is habituation, which is decreased response to repeated stimulation. However, the scope of this problem may actually be much broader than previously thought because of the neurobiological phenomenon of generalization. Whereas habituation describes a diminished response with repetitions of the same stimulus, generalization occurs when habituation to one stimulus carries over to other novel stimuli that are similar in appearance.

Previous implementation research offers conflicting viewpoints on the role that social influence dynamics play in implementation success. We study one social influence mechanism, namely peer-advice networks, and examine how the diversity characteristics (separation, disparity, and variety) of these networks lead to the emergence of a collective post-adoptive attitude (either resistance or support) toward a new information system. This pedagogical paper describes how a graduate course in Text Mining was developed and taught in a fully online format at Quinnipiac University. The software used was SAS™ Enterprise Miner. This paper discusses the design, software used and the methodology followed in the course. A critical component of the course required the students to delve deep into social media data by completing a detailed project on analyzing sentiment analysis using large files of social media data. A sample report of this project, which was a key deliverable for the course, is described at length in this paper.
