There are approximately 122,000 people of Latino origin in San Francisco, which account for 15% of the total population (Census, 2010). Historically, Latinos have and still face several barriers to access healthcare and improvements in health (Aguirre-Molina, Molina & Zambrana, 2001). When the world was exposed to the spread of a new and unknown virus, the broader population suffered from the epidemic. The Latino community in San Francisco was and still is one of the hardest hit by the virus.

One of Worcester Interfaith’s goals is to eradicate the stigma of affordable housing in Worcester. Currently, the perception of affordable housing is of an image of unkept and old residences filled with destitute citizens who cannot afford basic needs to live in a city, let alone housing. Crude oil is an essential commodity for industry and the prediction of its price is crucial for many business entities and government organizations. While there have been quite a few conventional statistical models to forecast oil prices, we find that there is not much research using decision tree models to predict crude oil prices. Over the past decade, mobile money, as a disruptive financial services innovation, has been widely adopted in Sub-Saharan Africa where the majority of population was financially excluded. Despite the transformative role of mobile money, the macro-level socioeconomic implications have been weakly examined so far. To fill the research gap, this paper explores the theoretical and empirical links between mobile money and socioeconomic development. There are currently two versions of Internet Protocol (IP) in use today, IP version 4 (IPv4) and IP version 6 (IPv6). The original version, IPv4, was standardized in the early 1980s as part of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency Internet program and became the official Internet protocol in 1983 (Kleinrock, 2010). Research has established the critical role of social networks in facilitating adjustment to foreign environments. Increasingly, social interactions are happening through computer mediated technology. This paper explores the role of emotional expression in newcomers’ blogs in developing and interacting with social networks in a new country. This research uses a dictionary-based text analytics approach to detect emotional expression in newcomers’ blog posts and their associated discussions. Blog posts with more emotional expression had more associated responses; discussions tended to be more positive than posts; and the relative amount of negative emotion in the discussions increases as posts become more negative. …

In the context of increasing globalization, a new product may be sequentially released into markets in different countries and regions. The behavior of consumers in the market where a new product is first launched may have a huge impact on the purchasing behavior of consumers in later markets through the effects of herding and word of mouth (WOM). This research empirically analyzes the impact of both the Web and social media on the performance of nonprofit organizations by using 100 nonprofit organizations ranked by web traction measures, including Facebook Likes and Twitter Followers. Our findings from ANOVA and non-parametric tests demonstrate that nonprofit organizations with higher web traction have greater contributions and grants than others with lower web traction. These findings suggest that the use of the Web coupled with social media promotes better, interactive (two-way) communications with the public, as well as fundraising and that nonprofit organizations that attract more supporters on the Web and social media …

Research Aims: To analyse the organisational commitment of pharmacists in Vietnamese enterprises, incorporating elements such as job satisfaction, leadership style and demographic variables. Design/Methodology/Approach: Based on a primary data sample, collected from 300 pharmacists in professional organisations (universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and drugstore chains), and a structural equation model (SEM). Research Findings: The results show that organisational commitment is significantly dependent on perceived job satisfaction, leadership styles and demographic variables by pharmacists. Predictors of pharmacists' organisational commitment differed significantly. Research Aims: Incorporating theories about psychological contracts and job characteristics, this research explores the relationship between different types of training events (i.e. on-the-job versus off-the-job training) and the turnover intention of female employees. Growth Need Strength (GNS) is a personality factor that strengthens this relationship. Design/Methodology/Approach: Empirical evidence for the research was derived from a survey that collected data from 221 female corporate officers in Vietnam, followed by a hierarchical regression. Research Findings: The results suggest that GNS significantly moderates the influence of off-the-job training on turnover intention. Cash Holding Or Net Debt, What Is Relevant For Indonesian Firms?, Himanshu Joshi
The South East Asian Journal of Management
Paper investigates the firm level determinants of cash holdings by Indonesian firms. It also examines net debt as substitute measure for cash holding in firm’s financial policies. Sample comprises of 483 Indonesian companies listed on Indonesia stock exchange. Study finds that firms with robust cash flows, and higher cost of capital hold more cash. Firms holding greater noncash liquid assets have moderate cash holdings. Cash holding is most relevant for financially constrained firms, and growth firms. Net debt appears to be most relevant element for low growth firms. No hedging firms are indifferent about their cash holdings and net debt.

Research Aims: This study investigates the impact of innovativeness on competitive advantage along with the role of human capital and entrepreneurship orientation as drivers for innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: The sample consists of small and medium sized manufacturers in Malaysia. A total of 193 firms participated. Data were collected via mail and drop-off survey and analysed using multiple regression analysis. Research Findings: The findings indicate that innovativeness significantly and positively influences competitive advantage. The effect of human capital and entrepreneurship orientation on innovativeness is also positive and significant. Research Aims: We analyse the impact of lean operations implementation on the performance of an Indonesian shoe producer, identify key success factors of the implementation and propose further improvements to increase company performance Design/Methodology/Approach: A mix of quantitative and qualitative methods is employed. Comparisons of operational and financial performance before and after implementation are conducted to analyse the program's impact. Research Aims: Work-life balance (WLB) and employee engagement are regarded as factors or catalysts with the potential to ensure a firm's continuous growth. Hence, imbalance between work and personal life causes higher stress that might lead to greater turnover intention among employees. Research Aims: In line with international entrepreneurship theory, this study investigated the effects of entrepreneurial characteristics and government support on small and medium enterprise (SME) internationalisation and performance. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study focussed on Malaysia as a developing economy; data were gathered from 237 SMEs with international business operations to facilitate the examination of associative relationships among the variables. Research Findings: Results of structural equation modelling show that government support has a direct positive effect on internationalisation whereas entrepreneurial characteristics do not. With an increasingly open global economy and advanced technologies, some third-party logistics providers (3PLs), such as Eternal Asia, have emerged as supply chain orchestrators, linking buyers with manufacturers worldwide. In addition to their traditional transportation services, these orchestrators provide procurement and financial assistance to buyers in the supply network, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries. In this era of pervasive computing and the Internet, learners everywhere connect and reconnect to knowledge away from classrooms, via mobile devices and their Mobile Instant Messaging platforms (MIMs). Still, many sub-Saharan African educators continue to confine these platforms to recreational activities. There is lack therefore of knowledge about how learners from sub-Saharan Africa perform such informal and experiential learning. The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has partnered with Deposit-Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) in Kenya to allow their members access to Co-operative Bank automated teller machines (ATMs) via Saccolink debit cards.
