Perbudakan manusia terhadap manusia telah berjalan berabad-abad lamanya. Tetapi, para ahli sejarah tidak dapat menentukan kapan permulaan perbudakan itu dimulai. Seba- gian ahli sejarah berpendapat, bahwa perbudakan itu dimulai bersamaan dengan perkembangan manusia, karena sebagian manusia memerlukan bantuan tenaga dari sebagian manusia lainnya.
