From out of seemingly irreconcilable ideologies of faith, hybrid performance culture emerged in spectacles of miraculous transformation, disciplinary processionals, and representations of religious identity. Measuring Ethnodoxy In Egypt And Morocco, Hannah M. Ridge

Ethnodoxy is the conceptual linkage of an ethnic group with a particular religion. It has been previously documented in Slavic Orthodox communities. This study uses Arabic-language surveys in Egypt and Morocco to measure this ethno-religious linkage among Arab Muslims. It develops a parsimonious survey scale for measuring ethnodoxy. It also demonstrates that ethnodox and non-ethnodox Egyptians and Moroccans have different political preferences, both for regime type and for the role of religion in politics.

American, Islamic, and Jewish law all limit the enforcement of private law agreements incases of oppression and exploitation. But each system uses a different justification. The common thread among the three legal systems is the opposition from jurists to enforce contracts with a fundamental aspect of oppression. The reasoning for preventing oppression within the law is distinct to each legal system. The American legal system roots the justification in preserving free will and ensuring actual consent to contract. The field of Muslim sexuality studies has grown over the past two decades because of the aftermath of 9/11. This master’s thesis is a textual content analysis of the personal narratives of queer Somalis in Western diaspora. It addresses the intersections of their identities that create unique forms of oppression. Not much research has been conducted on queer Somali communities. This analysis of queer Somalis’ personal narratives aims to illuminate parts of the invisibility of queer Somalis, their experienced accusations of inauthenticity, and the erasure of their existences. Firstly, this thesis investigates the syncretistic religious nature of Bangladeshi mausoleums, along with the historical background of the Sufi mausoleums and the flourishment of this syncretistic religiosity. The study explores the contribution of Sufis to the spread of Islam in Bengal. It discusses how the liberal attitude of mausoleum enshrined Sufis toward their followers of diverse faiths patronized syncretism. The study here hypothesizes that the religious practices of Bangladeshi mausoleums are syncretistic; they are neither exclusively Muslim nor Hindu but present a blended identity. Worship of the goddess Padmāvatī emerged more than a thousand years ago. This article explores three songs about her in Gujarati by Paṇḍit Vīrvijayajī (1773-1852). By analyzing the style and form of his work, one learns a great deal about devotional liturgies that commemorate goddess Padmāvatī’s protection of the Jina Pārśvanātha and, in turn, his protection of her.

Two strong women are compared and contrasted in this article. Gond Rani Durgawati (1524-1564) led a resistance movement in Jabalpur against the Mughal rule of Akbar. Rani Lakshmibai (1828-1858) organized the people of Jhansi against Sir Hugh Rose, an officer defending the interests of the British East India Company. Both women continue to be remembered for their bravery and their loyalty to the people they ruled.

Mai Bhago (1670-1720), also known as Bhag Kaur, distinguished herself on the battlefield to defend the Sikh faith. Amrita Devi Bishnoi (d. 1730) is said to have sacrificed her life with 362 others to protect the Khejari trees in the Rajasthan desert. Both women continue to inspire social justice and ecological activism.

Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) sought to alleviate poverty and empower women. His commitment to nonviolence and the economic ideal of “small is beautiful” continue to inspire grassroots movements around the globe. This article discusses the Chipko movement of northern India, the protection of rain forests in Kerala’s Silent Valley, the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), and Medha Patkar’s valiant though ultimately futile attempt to save the Narmada River from a massive government damming project. The ongoing legacy of these movements can be found in AWAG, the Ahmedabad Women’s Action Group and Women’s Shanti Sena (Peace Force).

Indigenous Stitch-Arts Of India: Tradition And Revival In A Global Age, Punam Madhok

Stitch art allows for the creative expression and economic support of countless women throughout India. This article examines four notable styles: chikankari, flora and fauna stitched in white thread on fine white cotton, rabari, the stitching of mirrors into colorful cloth, phulkari, resplendent flowery motifs sewn into shawls in Punjab, and kantha, Bengali patch work yielding quilts and seating mats. In addition to describing each technique, this article discusses how women have been economically empowered through this art by such organizations as Self-Help Enterprise (SHE) in Kolkata and Adithi, a women’s cooperative, in Bihar.

تناول هذا البحثُ بالدراسة أحدَ شروط العلة وهو "ألا تعود العلة المستنبطة على أصلها بالإبطال" وكان أحد الأسباب الدافعة لدراسة هذا الشرط عدمَ وضوح دلالته على معنى الإبطال، من حيث تكييفه الأصولي، وشموله للتعميم والتخصيص والرفع الكلي، واطراده في أبواب العبادات والمعاملات.

هدفت الدراسة إلى الكشف عن كيفية تعامل المفسرين مع قاعدة التأسيس أولى من التأكيد، موافقة أو مخالفة للقاعدة مع الوقوف على الأسباب التي دعتهم لهذه المخالفة. وقام الباحثان باستقراء عدد من الآيات التي وقف عندها بعض المفسرين وتحليل استنباطاتهم وبيان ما يتفق منها مع القاعدة وما يخالفها مستخدمين المنهج الاستدلالي الترجيحي. ومن أهم النتائج التي خلصت إليها الدراسة أن العمل بالقاعدة لا يقف عند آيات الأحكام، بل يشمل آيات القصص وآيات دلائل القدرة وغيرها. ومنها أن بعض المفسرين رجح ما لا يتفق والقاعدة لاعتبارات متعددة بينتها الدراسة، منها ثبوت حديث صحيح أو سبب نزول صحيح يرجح معنى يخالف القاعدة، ومنها …

هدفت الدِّراسة إلى: الكشف عن مدى تضمين منهاج التَّربية الإسلاميَّة للمرحلة الثَّانويَّة في سوريَّة مقوِّمات الهويَّة الإسلاميَّة. واعتمد الباحث على المنهجُ الوصفي الذي يعتمد على عرض الظاهرة -المرصودة والمتعلِّقة بموضوع الدِّراسة- عرضاً دقيقاً كما هي في الواقع بقصد تشخيصها وكشف جوانبها عبر استخدام أسلوب تحليل المحتوى. ومن أبرز النَّتائج التي توصَّلت إليها الدِّراسة: تبيَّن من خلال نتائج التَّحليل تضمين منهاج التَّربية الإسلاميَّة لمقوِّم الدِّين بأعلى تكرار بنسبة مئويَّة مقدارها (47.8)، تكاد تصل إلى نصف تكرار معايير تعزيز الهويَّة، يليه القيم (21.4)، ويظهر الضَّعف في مدى تضمين معايير تعزيز الهويَّة في باقي المقوِّمات، اللغة (1.9)، والعادات والتَّقاليد (0.6)، والتَّاريخ (0.5).

تهدفُ هذهِ المقاربةُ إلى تحليلِ الخطابِ من وجهتين: تداولية وحجاجية للآيات الواردة في سورة البقرة من الآية (33-30) المتعلقة باستخلاف آدم u وتعليمه الأسماء، وقد نهضتْ المقاربة بأداتين منهجيتين وفقا لما يُعرف بـ (التّداولية المُدمَجة)؛ لتحسس سياق الموقف الذي صدرت عنه الأقوال ذات الطابع الحِجاجي الخالص. وقد تناولت الدراسة الخِلافَ الكبير بين جمهور العلماء حول دلالة لفظة (الأسماء)، واستطاعتْ - بناءً على ما ترجّح في سياق الموقف- أن تستبعد الأقوال المتداولة في التأويل، وأن تضع تأويلاً ملائماً للدّلالة، عبر منهجيّة الأسئلة الاستدلالية، واستنطاق الدّلالات التّداولية للملفوظات في سياقها. متخذة من الوصف والتحليل منهجا لها. وخلصت إلى نتائج من أبرزها ترجيحَ …
