Melding Critical Literacy And Christianity: A Three-Layered Response To The Murder Of George Floyd, Elena M. Venegas
Melding Critical Literacy And Christianity: A Three-Layered Response To The Murder Of George Floyd, Elena M. Venegas
The Journal of Faith, Education, and Community
In this critical autoethnography, I share my three-layered response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department in May of 2020. This three-layered response stems from my situated identities (Gee, 1999) as a mother, Christian, and academic. I was not only appalled by the dehumanization of George Floyd by public servants but also by the responses of self-professed Christians to his murder as well as the ensuing Black Lives Matter protests. Such responses, I argue, are rooted in Christian nationalism (Davis & Perry, 2020) and the White supremacy that has long plagued the American …

The role of the pious people in facing the problem of fear in society: TadlaSociety as a case study between the 16th and 17th centuries
In every age and place there are noble people whose only concern is the public interest and the advancement of the social, economic and political milieu. In the various historical stages of Morocco, there were men of mysticism, Sufism and righteousness and left their touch. Some of them are still engraved in the collective memory of Moroccans and became an infernal and spiritual symbol. This article sheds light on one of the Moroccan societies, especially …

Andalusia’s Sufism Between the apostasy of gnosis among the Sufi elites and the Islam of the lay people in Tlemcen
Sufism allows the practitioners to discover the mysterious secrets about the world and the universe through introspection and the perception of hidden things. It opens a window that allows one to see the origin of the world, for example, the hierarchy of divine powers and what is hidden from the essence of man. Gnosticism as a doctrine is based on a person's knowledge of himself and the deep voice within through an understanding of inner insight. This article attempts to …

The Religious discourse and freedom of belief in the Islamic West during the medieval era.
Religious discourse and freedom of belief are two important topics for their role in addressing fundamental issues such as relations between people for the sake ofspreading tolerance and coexistence values. Researchers focus more on scrutinizingthe cultural and social aspects of the Western world in order to understand it and try to approach the historical experiences of Islam from the perspective of Maliki jurisprudence. The religious minorities groups and communities who are considered as a basis of the present study should be integrated in all aspects …

Title : Abu Bakr al-BAQILLANI reception of the miracles of the Qur'an
During the second and the fourth Hijri centuries, the prime preoccupation of scholars was to rekindle the Arab intellectual heritage and create diversity of thought and knowledge. The first predominant current tried to prove the Qur’anic miracle. The Ash'ariyya and Mu'tazila tried reasoning and logic to confront disbelievers. However, there raised issues with readership and receptivity. The second current shifted focus onto the aesthetic impact of the Qur’anic miracle. The stage is characterized by innate and pure aesthetic taste that is not spoiled as poetics and rhetoric of …

Title : Divinity doctrine in the Arab Thought
Many religious, social and anthropological studies show that divinity in societies in general and in Arab societies in particular is enmeshed with human existence itself. That is, from Adam and on , divinity in societies underwent several changes. The prophets were the one charged to correct doctrines throughout human history .Nowadays, contemporary reality tells us that The Holy Prophet Muhammad is the seal of all prophets and that no other divine prophet will follow both in the Arab world or elsewhere.

The Prosperity Ethic: Neoliberal Christianity And The Rise Of The New Prosperity Gospel In The Philippines, Erron Medina, Jayeel S. Cornelio
Development Studies Faculty Publications
A new prosperity gospel is emerging in the Philippines. We call it the prosperity ethic. Its dimensions set it apart from the previous incarnation of the prosperity gospel, which emphasized tithing and confessing. Specifically, the prosperity ethic values upward mobility and uses biblical principles for the acquisition of practical skills to become rich. We make our case by drawing on the writings of Bo Sanchez and Chinkee Tan, two of the most influential prosperity-oriented preachers in the country. The prosperity ethic has three dimensions: the morality of wealth (believing right), the prescribed mindset (thinking right), and the practical skills to …
