Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematological malignancy that is sustained by leukemia-initiating cells (LICs). Although protein tyrosine phosphatase 4A2 (PTP4A2), also known as phosphatase of regenerating liver 2 (PRL2), is highly expressed in AML, the mechanisms by which PTP4A2 promotes leukemogenesis are largely unexplored. In this study, we demonstrate that PTP4A2 promotes AML by inhibiting the p53 tumor suppressor pathway in LICs. Using KMT2A-MLLT3–driven AML as a model, we found that PTP4A2 deficiency activates p53 and induces LIC apoptosis and senescence, thereby extending the survival of recipient mice repopulated with Ptp4a2−/− LICs. Mechanistically, PTP4A2 directly interacts with …

A Distinctly Christian Understanding Of The Technical Details In Engineering, Paul Griffioen
A Distinctly Christian Understanding Of The Technical Details In Engineering, Paul Griffioen
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
Within engineering disciplines, much attention has been given to developing pedagogical techniques and practical applications that are distinctly Christian. However, not as much attention has been given to understanding technical engineering content from a distinctly Christian perspective. The main reason is that the technical details of engineering seem to be the same for both Christians and non-Christians. After all, does being a Christian have any impact on the content of specific technical details like integration and finite element analysis? Since the vast majority of time in engineering jobs, research, and teaching is spent on specific technical details, this is a …

Plasma N6 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Levels And Risk For Dementia: A Prospective Observational Study From The United Kingdom Biobank, Aleix Sala-Vila, Nathan Tintle, Jason Westra, Evan Dejong, Tom J. Clark, Paige Miller, Martha A. Belury, William S. Harris
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
Background
Some recent observational studies have linked higher blood linoleic acid (LA) concentration with lower risk of cardiometabolic diseases. However, these associations have not been observed for other n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), which, in some settings, have been linked to higher disease risk, and thus the controversy over the health effects of n-6 PUFAs remains. Dementia is a paradigmatic case of it.
Objectives
To investigate the association of LA and non-LA n-6 PUFAs with the risk of incident dementia.
Methods
We included 273,795 participants from the UK Biobank free of dementia at baseline for whom plasma n-6 PUFAs data …
