Whro/Odu Music Collection Presents "Women Composers Through The Ages", Wayla Chambo Stephenson (Performer), James W. Kosnik (Performer)
Faculty Recitals
Dr. Wayla Chambo Stephenson is a versatile, committed performer of both new mu-sic for flute and the traditional repertoire. She serves as Associate Artistic Director and flutist with the Norfolk Chamber Consort, and has performed with the Virginia Symphony, Virginia Children’s Chorus, Christopher Newport University Opera, Dallas Festival of Modern Music, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Dallas Wind Symphony, among others. Chambo serves on the National Flute Association’s New Music Advisory Committee and was Program Chair of the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. Ukrainian Folklore Influences In The Music Of Myroslav Skoryk: Historical Background And Performance Guide To Selected Violin Works, Iuliia Alyeksyeyeva
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Myroslav Skoryk is one of the most influential Ukrainian composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. His works draw extensively on the folk traditions of Ukraine to evoke various aspects of the country’s cultural legacy.
The violin holds a special place in the cultural, societal, and historical heritage of Ukraine. Skoryk’s works for violin draw on both Ukrainian folk traditions as well as classical performance traditions. The intricacies of Skoryk’s folk-inspired classical pieces of music are rooted in the oral traditions of Ukrainian folk music.
