Women Composers: A Historical Survey Of Their Music And Its Validity For Use In The Vocal Studio, Amanda Anderson
Women Composers: A Historical Survey Of Their Music And Its Validity For Use In The Vocal Studio, Amanda Anderson
Recital Papers
Though the accepted canon of vocal literature for classical singers is extensive, repertoire by female composers is largely overlooked or omitted when considering what comprises this canon. The lack of the female presence “does not mean that women have been silent as composers, performers, and participants in other facets of music” (Citron 2000, 41). The history of vocal music is peppered with female composers, many of whom were singers themselves, but the majority of these composers have been hidden in obscurity, overshadowed by their male counterparts, or dismissed due to their lack of public recognition. Though the limitations of social …

Developing A Multimedia Interface For Electrical Biosignal Interpretation, Christopher Cox
Developing A Multimedia Interface For Electrical Biosignal Interpretation, Christopher Cox
Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Symposium
In the last ten years, a great deal of interest has been generated around the practice of using plants’ electrical signals to create sound or music. In order to render biosignals capable of producing sound electronically, some kind of interface is necessary that converts a plant’s natural electrical signals into data that a computer can understand. Existing commercial interfaces cost at minimum $3001,2 . Worse yet, two popular off-the-shelf interfaces conform their output signals to stereotypical human notions of what a plant might “sound like”. In this project we fabricated a simple but high-performance interface for less than $5 in …

Mental Health In Music: Why Are We Not Talking About It?, Christian Pence
English Department: Research for Change - Wicked Problems in Our World
The music business has taken many hits over the past 20 years, and we are seeing musicians slowly going extinct. There are so many factors that are hurting musicians, and workers in the music business. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, we were investing in music like no tomorrow. So many concerts were happening, and so many Broadway shows were going on. We were really supporting our musicians, and we were helping them in any way we could. But society, has not been investing in musicians, causing certain problems, like financial stability, mental health problems, and making music more of …
