The purpose of the project was to determine if two Junior High band student trainees could accurately evaluate the performance of individual band students from a pre-selected method book. Band students would record specific musical exercises which were evaluated by two student trainees and the band director. The purpose of the project was to check the reliability between the student trainees and the director.

The origin of all stringed instruments is lost in the midst of time, and despite the most patient and laborious research on the part of famous savants, no positive information has as yet been furnished regarding this point . During the past decade the guitar has become increasingly popular. As a result, there are many more students who wish to participate in legitimate programs of study in all areas of guitar, especially jazz guitar. Formal instruction, especially in jazz guitar, is available on a very limited basis.
Guitar players are demanding sophisticated courses of study incorporating the fundamentals of music and are demanding that these courses be made a part of the music curriculum at colleges and universities. Therefore, it would be possible to earn a music degree in guitar performance.

This paper offers proven methods and techniques of organization and performance with the high school vocal jazz ensemble. Hopefully, these methods and techniques will assist the high school vocal jazz director, trained in traditional choral music or instrumental music, to develop a successful high school vocal jazz ensemble. Suggestions for selecting members, materials, equipment, and the costumes are offered. The intricacies of vocal jazz interpretation and performance are analyzed and equated with facets of traditional choral music, helping to paint a clearer picture of programming.

Predicting Success In Instrumental Music, Charles A. Baughman

This paper represents a study of the predictability of several types of music tests given to the fourth grade students in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The tests studied were the "Selmer Music Guidance Survey," a Teacher's Evaluation, and an investigatordeveloped self-concept test. The study showed that the correlation coefficient between the self-concept test and the achievement level of the students at the time of the study was the highest. The correlation coefficient between the "Selmer Music Guidance Survey" and the achievement level was the lowest. The purpose of this study was to determine what changes occurred in values in music education from 1950 to 1970, as presented in written value statements from the Music Educators Journal, and to determine the direction(s) of change. Eighteen categories of value under four general headings (Social Values, Psychological Values, Aesthetic Values, and Futuristic Values) were identified and were the focus of the study.
