This paper presents a script for a half hour television program covering six songs and their four composers. The script includes short anecdotal biographies of the composers emphasizing information about their childhood and youth, translations or explanations of the song texts, and some ideas about the relationship between the performers, the song and the composer. This paper presents an original musical composition, in a contemporary style, written specifically for the modern brass ensemble. In addition to its purely aesthetic value, the piece may serve as an educational tool, to be used in developing the brass ensemble at the high school and college levels.

The covering paper includes a history of the family of brass instruments and an analysis of the composition. Research supports the argument that the bass ensemble is a viable, musical medium.

It was the purpose of this study to help enable a pianist to make the best possible interpretation of the work for piano, Six Preludes, Opus JS by Paul Creston. The procedure used was (1) devising alternate melodic, rhythmic, and tempo interpretations and alternate ways of pedaling; (2) consultations with the composer, which included performing the work for him and questioning him concerning the alternate methods; and (3) finally deciding upon the composer's preferred interpretation for performance of the work.

In general, high school choruses do not reach their potential as far as choral tone is concerned. The tone is generally characterized by either a completely undisciplined and labored sound or a pseudo "mature" sound imposed upon the students by a director seeking to emulate his college choir.

When high school choruses sing freely and naturally, they do so because they are taught and inspired to do so by their director. In preparing a graduate recital the writer had to select a variety of music for his program. In reviewing several small lists of saxophone music, one comprehensive collection would have been more helpful. Many hours of research in comparing smaller catalogues could have been spared the writer, if one complete survey had been available. Music teachers, students and professional musicians also could use one comprehensive list extensively and from it obtain the needed music more quickly and efficiently.

The primary purpose of the transcription is to contribute new and fresh material to the ever expanding body of string quartet literature. A new work by a composer of Prokofieff's stature will be a creditable addition to the chamber music repertoire. This paper presents a survey of the scheduling, staffing and housing procedures for elementary instrumental music in selected large suburban school districts surrounding the City of Seattle, Washington. Upon comparison with other available studies and a similar survey of the Highline Public Schools, basic recommendations were made for the implementation of three alternate plans for a comprehensive elementary instrumental music program in the Highline Public Schools. The preferred recommended plan involves simultaneously team teaching with instrumental and vocal music specialists.
