Few would argue that our community's position is precarious. On the one hand, we are a growing presence in the Commonwealth. In 1995, there were an estimated 344,068 Latinos living in Massachusetts, representing 5.6% of the total state population, a 20% increase since 1990. It is expected that the 2000 census will confirm that Latinos are indeed the largest minority group in the state. Latinos make up an even larger proportion of the total population of a number of key cities, including Lawrence (48%), Chelsea (39%), Holyoke (37%), Springfield (20%), and Boston (12%). In the western world, twentieth-century literature has been an extended experience of atheism and sadism. Lest this claim not seem dogmatic enough, let me put it differently, more boldly: this century has been an attempt to ingest and digest Nietzsche, to cannibalize the Übermensch philologist, first in order to comprehend the strength and depth of his vision, but second to enact his philosophy. Were this a standard academic essay, I would define atheism and sadism, identify and analyze a few texts that best corroborate my thesis, and draw some conclusions about the twentieth century. Global Forces And Latino Population Growth In The Midwest: A Regional And Subregional Analysis, Lourdes Gouveia, Rogelio Saenz

Latino/Latin American Studies Faculty Proceedings & Presentations

The last decade has seen a significant growth of the Latino population in the Midwest, particularly in rural communities. We discuss the forces that have stimulated the growth of the Latino population in the region. We use data from the Current Population Surveys (1988-1997) to assess the demographic and employment growth of the Latino population in the Midwest. Because of the limitations of secondary data, we also illustrate the growth of the Latino population with evidence from Nebraska and a selected area of the state. Data analysis suggests that population estimates of the Latino population generated by the US Bureau …

In the Spring of 2000, Dr. Eddie Gibbs was installed in the Donald McGavran Chair of Church Growth at Fuller School of World Mission. His appointment followed the retirement of C. Peter Wagner from the chair in 1999. At his installation, Dr. Gibbs presented a paper, “Church Growth Viewed ‘Through a Glass Darkly,’” which is reprinted as the lead article in this issue of the JASCG.

Kant On Recognizing Our Duties Asgod's Commands, John E. Hare

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

Kant both says that we should recognize our duties as God's commands, and objects to the theological version of heteronomy, 'which derives morality from a divine and supremely perfect will'. In this paper I discuss how these two views fit together, and in the process I develop a notion of autonomous submission to divine moral authority. I oppose the 'constitutive' view of autonomy proposed by J. B. Schneewind and Christine Korsgaard. I locate Kant's objection to theological heteronomy against the background of Crusius's divine command theory, and I compare Kant's views about divine authority and human political authority.

朱駿聲(1788-1858)與段玉裁(1735 -1815)同列名清代(1644-1911)「說文學」四大家。後世學者研究朱氏的《說文通訓定聲》和段氏的《說文解字注》此二「說文學」要典，成績早著。

就規模而言，《說文段注拈誤》自然難與《說文通訓定聲》相提並論。但在云云匡正《說文解字注》諸作之中，《說文段注拈誤》並不乏可觀之處，惜尚未引起學者的注意，遂敢為此篇，試述而評之。
