Unlike most of the great German actors before him, Alexander Moissi was not a native German speaker. He was born in Albania and grew up speaking Greek and Italian--yet he had a forty-year career in German that earned him millions of dollars in performances all over the world. In none of those performances did Moissi lose the Mediterranean inflections in the language of Goethe and Schiller. But that did not diminish his stature; it enhanced it.

Analysis is carried out on a selection of distinguished literary research studies which have not only stimulated scholarly debate but also influenced new study trends, paradigms or reinterpretations of major literary texts. From this analysis an attempt will be made to criticize and evaluate these research studies and to suggest what could be the future trends in Thai literary studies.

The Metaphysics And Ethics According To The Bhagavadgita And The Suttanta Pitaka, Samniang Leurmsai

The purpose of this paper is to compare ideas of metaphysics and ethics written in the Bhagavadgita text of Hinduism, and the Suttanta Pitaka, text of Buddhism. After examination, it is found that the Bhagavadgita recognizes the idea of God (brahman) and Self (atman) which are mainly metaphysical concepts, whereas the Suttanta Pitaka rejects these ideas. Both texts agree ignorance and desire are causes of deluded actions which are responsible for the continued chain of existence and that all begins are born again repeatedly in different spheres of life driven by their intentional actions. Factors Related To The Validity Of Reproduction Tonal Memory Tests, Charles E. Norris

The purpose of this investigation was to acquire data regarding the validity of reproduction tonal memory tests by examining the relationships between performances on an existing reproduction tonal memory test and performances on several recognition tonal memory tests. Analysis of 210 fifth- through twelfth-grade students' scores on one reproduction test and four recognition tests of tonal memory revealed moderate relationships (r = .47 to .66) between the two types of tests. Stepwise multiple regression revealed a moderately strong predictive relationship between a combination of three recognition measures and the reproduction test (R = .73, R2 = .53). The relationship between women of color and community economic development is fundamentally a question of income. And, for women, questions of income more often than not become questions of pay equity - whether or not women and men are receiving equal pay for equal, or comparable work. Because the economy retains entrenched vestiges of sexual discrimination, the solutions to such problems lie within the political realm, where laws to ensure equality are created and enforced. Introduction:

The year 1999 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Achievement of women’s liberation has been on the agenda of the Chinese Communist Party since the beginning of the PRC. This research studies the women’s movement and changes in women’s status in China. The first part of the paper reviews the history of the women’s movement in China and relevant theoretical perspectives on gender stratification. The second part examines empirical and secondary data to demonstrate the transformations of women’s status in China. The final section examines some conclusions emerging from the data. This essay argues that a fuller understanding of some cultural systems contributing to medieval spirituality in the early middle ages, transmitted to us for the most part through patristic writings, opens up different possibilities for late 20th-century readers' interpretation of the cycles and change in Beowulf, especially the poem's ending. Competing with the apocalyptic view is the possibility that dramatic reversals continue--for better and for worse--beyond Beowulf's death, beyond the end of the poem, beyond the poet's death, the audience's death, and the reader's death--until the end of time--in ways that seem meaningless unless readers provide their own understanding of …
