This study will focus on the diversity, conjunction and separation of Francophone literatures of the South (Africa, Antilles and Maghreb). The aim is to underscore the characteristics and differences of this literary production in order, on the one hand, to consider its originality and sphere of influence and, on the other hand, to appreciate its singularity and plurality.

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature
Fouad Laroui puts forth a new model of relationship to the language, one that separates from the idealized notion of the mother- language couple (place of origin and tradition, allegorical figure of the colonized and humiliated country) that characterized the previous generation of writers from the Maghreb. In so doing, he puts a new focus on the issue of French as the «dominant language».

For many Germans in the immediate postwar period, all that remained of their country was its art. Subjugation, destruction, the pain of unfathomable guilt: these had ripped away at the national psyche, severing nation from nationalism, person from people, the present from the past. “We are,” wrote Wolfgang Borchert in 1946, “a generation without a homecoming, because we have nothing to which we can return.” Nation: what would that word now mean? Rap music has been characterized as a significant cultural form of resistance to the oppression experienced by African-Americans in post-industrial America (Rose 1994; Martinez 1997). Much of the literature that addresses rap music is primarily based on gangsta rap or rap music otherwise created and performed by black men. Through the method of content analysis, I focus on women’s rap music—which has been largely ignored in the academic literature—to explore the meanings and identities that black women express through rap music. Successful aging has long been a focus in aging studies. Previous researchers have formulated bipolar theories, examined groups of successful-agers, and tested many variables thought to contribute to successful aging. Defined as the most effective way for the older person to adapt to the physical, psychological, and social changes that occur in later life, other research has suggested that successful aging might even be a matter of subjective definition. Temples are the great gathering places of Mormonism. As such, they cater in varying degrees to the diversity of an increasingly global Church membership. From its inception, the Stockholm Sweden Temple was designed to transcend the linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic differences that might otherwise undermine the temple's higher purposes. Dedicated in 1985, that temple was therefore well suited to play a vital role in the early development of the Church in Russia and the Baltic states. On a mild and pleasant Monday, February 22, 1864, Joseph A. Young in company with Elders William C. Staines, John W. Young, and H. B. Clawson departed Salt Lake City by overland mail stage for the East to organize and direct the year's gathering of Saints to Zion. Joseph W. Young, also appointed to this task, had already left the city on the preceding stage. After extensive labors ensuring a successful emigration, these untiring servants did not return to their homes and families until late September when the last emigrants were outfitted and on the final leg of their journey.

“Falseness Reigns In Every Flock”: Literacy And Eschatological Discourse In The Peasants’ Revolt Of 1381, Tison Pugh

The literature of the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, a miscellany of fourteenth-century poetry and prose penned before, during, and after the insurrection, often stresses the importance of literacy to the nonaristocratic population of England. Since literacy was a primary marker of one’s social status in the stratified society of medieval England, the rise of literacy in the lower orders pointed to a dramatic change in the prevail- ing socioeconomic structure. In the literature of the revolt, eschatological themes highlight the tensions resulting from this tremendous upheaval in the traditional estates. Our present conception of alchemy is, at best, shadowy and confused. As Charles Nicholl states in The Chemical Theatre, "The modern image...tends in two directions: one scientific, the other magical. The first defines alchemy simply and chronologically as early chemistry...out of which modern chemistry began to emerge during the seventeenth century.” On the other hand, “alchemy is popularly defined as one of the ‘occult arts’.... (First paragraph) Until quite recently, I dismissed criticisms of "angry feminists" as a sexist stereotype. I was tired of hearing people say, "I believe in equal pay for equal work, but I dislike those bra-burning feminists!" Perhaps I'm too young, but almost all of my friends are feminists, and I have yet to meet anyone who has burned her bra, so this comment always strikes me as bizarre. This article focuses on the differences between Slavic LCTL and Russian "language teaching situations" in the specific areas of student constituency and basic program structure, and the importance of considering these differences in developing teacher training programs that include teachers of Slavic LCTLs. Emphasis is placed on how the realities of the typical Slavic LCTL program point to the need to train graduate student-teachers in the specific skills of course/program design and development in order to prepare them more adequately for their teaching tasks.
