It’s early summer, 1971, and school has just recessed. Benjamin Thomas, a typical eleven-year-old boy, has his hopes set on three months of escapades unchecked by the tedium of teachers and books and classrooms. Dosso Dossi, Garofalo, And The Costabili Polyptych: Imaging Spiritual Authority, Giancarlo Fiorenza

Recent debate over the chronology of the Costabili polyptych, painted for the high altar of S. Andrea in Ferrara, has overlooked the broader question of interpretation regarding its genesis following Ferrara's participation in the Cambrai Wars. This essay analyzes how the altarpiece negotiates the concept of "just war" while communicating God's peace and salvation. Especially relevant to interpreting the imagery are the writings of Andrea Baura and Antonio Meli, two contemporary Augustinian friars from S. Andrea, who offered new ways of reading Scripture to overcome Ferrara's historical and spiritual conflicts.

Water And Woodfiring, Richard Bresnahan

Part of a special section on the 1999 International Woodfire Conference. The technique of putting water into a high-temperature woodfired kiln is discussed. This 800-year-old technique is used to oxidize the environment, clear carbon, and quickly cool the pottery. It produces unique, beautiful textures and colors, particularly a rich earth-tone palette that cannot be paralleled by chemical glazes or other firing techniques. This technique was used in a Teppo-gama (gun kiln) based on designs from 12th-century Korean tunnel kilns, built on the island of Tanegashima, Japan, in 1969. Muhlenberg County Heritage
“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.
