The Development Of A Method Book For Teaching Adults Beginning Piano, Carolyn Meier Flora
The Development Of A Method Book For Teaching Adults Beginning Piano, Carolyn Meier Flora
Music ETDs
There are few instruction books for teaching adults beginning piano. The scarcity of teaching material for adult students and the deficiencies of the available materials have led to this study. The purpose of this study was to develop a beginning piano instruction book for adults to include (1) a history of music; (2) the basic elements of music, i.e., melody, rhythm, harmony, and form; (3) basic chording; and (4) music from each of the principal periods of history. The objectives of the instruction book were to provide the student with enough musical experience to (1) be able to read music; …

Franco-American Music Traditions Exhibit
Ethnomusicologist Bau Graves has written about Maurice Gagnon (1927-1973): “Maurice Gagnon is remembered as a dynamic performer by those who him play. At the age of ten, he was already an ace harmonica player and could attract an audience and earn money playing in clubs. He played a repertoire of jigs and reels and also composed a number of tunes some of which he recorded as 45’s and one LP album. These recordings, released between 1964 and 1970, are a historical scarcity: only a relative handful of disks of traditional Maine Franco-American music have ever been available to the public.”

Franco-American Music Traditions Exhibit
Chuck Frechette, Bill Beauchesne, and Marcel Larrivee [L to R] have performed together since 1965. They began playing for Le Club Musicale Literaire, and after adding more members, became The Mountain Dews. Their repertoire includes western and bluegrass music. Bill first heard a bass washtub on the Ted Mack Amateur Radio Hour. He figured out how to make one and how to play it. Bill was 12 when he got together with a group of neighborhood friends playing guitar, harmonica, and washboard. Their gigs included bean suppers in church basements. Other members of the Mountain Dews have been Roland Boileau, …

Characteristics Of Style In The Song Cycle Don Quichotte À DulcinéE, Bruce Gyger Dodge
Characteristics Of Style In The Song Cycle Don Quichotte À DulcinéE, Bruce Gyger Dodge
All Master's Theses
As Don Quichotte à Dulcinée is representative of contemporary vocal literature, an investigation into its style characteristics would seem to have value. Through the performance of the song cycle this writer has come to appreciate and recognize that an understanding of French and the style characteristics of this composer are necessary for an artistic rendition.

Two Bach Preludes And Fugues Transcribed For Wind-Band, Douglas Duane Nott

Outlines: An Original Composition For Concert Band, Bruce Albert Stephenson Hunter
All Master's Theses
If one attempted to study the history of jazz through the study of music playable by and available to the average high school band, he might conclude that jazz was a frivolous medium which died in the late 1940's. Outlines was composed in the hope that future high school musicians will develop a more balanced view of music trends in the last half of the century.
