The general topic of the treatment of Nature in poetry has be­come somewhat shopworn . Miss Reynolds' excellent coverage of that transitional period from Pope to Wordsworth has crossed the lending library desk into the hands of students and interested readers many times. Her effort is one of the first to reveal in a scholarly fashion a love or Nature and the manners of its expression.

From the time I was first introduced to Fitzgerald's writing through a reading of This Side of Paradise, when I was a freshman in college, his subject matter and technique as a novelist have interested me intensely. After reading the first novel, I was not satisfied until I had voraciously read his other novels. With each reading of another of his books, my interest increased. Later, when Mizener's valuable biography appeared, I was introduced to Fitzgerald the man and have found his life as fascinating as his writings. This study originated in the belief that the poems, plays, and novels of Henry Brooke furnish a good cross-section of the thought of eighteenth-century England. Deism, Newtonianism, mysticism, methodism, Rousseauism-- all find expression in Brooke's writing. Since on the surface it would appear that many of the ideas are contradictory and incompatible, I was interested to learn whether, chameleon like, he changed his ideas to fit each passing interest, abandoning one set of beliefs to embrace another, or whether, by means of some subtle alchemy, he was able to fuse and synthesize the apparently divergent ideas which his writings reflect. …

Tagore, the interpreter of the East to the West, was impelled by the urge of his strong desire for world understanding to shape his thought in many media. He presents his message clothed in the garb of nature and her influence on men; he expresses his rejection of the material in favor of the spiritual and the simple in beautiful melody; he champions the poor and the oppressed in arresting song, and with impassioned ardor compels sincerity and abandonment of all sham and orthodoxy that cripple the spirit.

The Poetry Of Dylan Thomas, Myron Ochshorn

There are many reasons for calling Thomas a romantic, and in the course of this study an attempt will be made to make these reasons apparent. But if Thomas is a romantic, he is one who has absorbed into his poetry all of the niceties and intricacies of the seventeenth-century metaphysical poets. His poetry, like theirs, abounds in conceits, allusions, and puns—qualities which we do not usually associate with romantic poetry.
