แม่น้ำเป็นปัจจัยที่ทำให้เกิดภูมิประเทศรูปแบบต่าง ๆ รวมถึงให้ทรัพยากรแก่มนุษย์ นอกจากปัจจัยด้านทรัพยากรแล้ว ในการตั้งถิ่นฐานของมนุษย์ยังต้องคำนึงถึงเงื่อนไขจากผลกระทบของกระบวนการของแม่น้ำด้วย เช่น การหลากของน้ำตามฤดูกาลที่ทำให้เกิดที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงและลานตะพักลำน้ำ ซึ่งเป็นรูปแบบทางธรณีสัณฐานที่มีคุณประโยชน์หลายด้าน โดยลานตะพักลำน้ำในที่ราบลุ่มหรือแอ่ง เป็นพื้นที่ที่มีความเหมาะสมต่อการตั้งถิ่นฐาน เนื่องจากสามารถเข้าถึงแม่น้ำได้สะดวก และพื้นที่มีระดับสูงทำให้ได้รับผลกระทบจากน้ำหลากน้อย วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาขอบเขตภูมินิเวศแม่น้ำและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการตั้งถิ่นฐานของเมืองแพร่กับแม่น้ำยม โดยอาศัยพื้นฐานจากกรอบแนวคิดภูมินิเวศวิทยาและภูมินิเวศแม่น้ำ ใช้การวิเคราะห์ในเชิงพื้นที่ด้วยรูปตัดภูมิประเทศจากแบบจำลองความสูงเชิงเลข และข้อมูลธรณีวิทยา รวมถึงสังเกตความเปลี่ยนแปลงของสิ่งปกคลุมดินจากอดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน โดยผลการวิจัยแสดงให้เห็นว่า เมืองแพร่ตั้งอยู่บนลานตะพักแม่น้ำยมชิดกับแนวเขตที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึง เป็นการตั้งถิ่นฐานที่อยู่บนเงื่อนไขของปัจจัยเชิงนิเวศ แต่ในปัจจุบันเมืองแพร่มีการขยายตัวมากขึ้นจนขยายเข้าสู่พื้นที่แนวแม่น้ำยม และมีการกำหนดการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดินให้เป็นพื้นที่อยู่อาศัยในที่ราบน้ำท่วมถึงอีกด้วย ความรู้ความเข้าใจที่ได้จากการศึกษานี้จึงจะเป็นพื้นฐานสำหรับการวางแผนการจัดการภูมินิเวศให้สอดคล้องกับปัจจัยทางภูมินิเวศของภูมินิเวศแม่น้ำ และการอยู่ร่วมกับแม่น้ำในอนาคต

ระบบชลประทานโบราณเป็นภูมิทัศน์วัฒนธรรมที่สำคัญประเภทหนึ่ง มีความสำคัญต่อการดำรงชีวิตของมนุษย์เพื่อการอุปโภคบริโภคและเกษตรกรรม อีกทั้งยังส่งเสริมทัศนียภาพและสภาพแวดล้อมให้แก่เมือง เมื่อเมืองถูกพัฒนาโดยขาดการคำนึงถึงระบบชลประทานโบราณ นำไปสู่การเกิดปัญหา เช่น น้ำท่วม น้ำแล้งและน้ำเน่าเสีย เป็นต้น วิทยานิพนธ์นี้ศึกษารูปแบบและการเปลี่ยนแปลงระบบชลประทานโบราณของเมืองสุโขทัยและเมืองเชียงใหม่ โดยใช้วิธีศึกษาจากการค้นคว้าเอกสารวิชาการ ศึกษาภาพถ่ายทางอากาศจากอดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน การสัมภาษณ์นักวิชาการที่สามารถให้ข้อมูลด้านประวัติศาสตร์ การสำรวจพื้นที่ศึกษาเพื่อสังเกตการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบัน นำข้อมูลทั้งหมดมาเปรียบเทียบความเหมือนและความแตกต่าง และสรุปผลการศึกษา ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ระบบชลประทานโบราณเกิดจากความเข้าใจอย่างถ่องแท้ถึงลักษณะภูมิศาสตร์และทำเลที่ตั้งของเมือง การเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบันส่งผลกระทบต่อภูมิทัศน์วัฒนธรรมและระบบนิเวศเมือง รวมทั้งทำให้เกิดภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติ

ภูมิทัศน์ถนน (Street Scape) เป็นคุณลักษณะทางกายภาพสำคัญที่แสดงเอกลักษณ์ของเมืองๆนั้น ให้ผู้คนได้เข้าใจสภาพความเป็นอยู่ ตลอดจนวิถีชีวิต วัฒนธรรมที่สอดคล้องกันกับผู้อาศัยในเมืองนั้นๆ ซึ่งแต่เดิมสยามประเทศที่ได้ชื่อว่าเป็น นครเวนิสตะวันออก ที่ใช้เรือเป็นพาหนะขนส่งหลัก แต่หลังจากการทำสนธิสัญญาเบาว์ริง (Bowring Treaty) ในปี พ.ศ. 2399 ถนนเริ่มมีบทบาทสำคัญในการขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจภายในประเทศ โดยมีองค์ประกอบภูมิทัศน์ถนนที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ อาคารทางประวัติศาสตร์ ต้นไม้ ทางเท้า ที่ว่าง กิจกรรมของชุมชน ฯลฯ เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปความเปลี่ยนแปลงของภูมิทัศน์ถนนในย่านเมืองเก่า ที่เกิดขึ้นจากปัจจัยของกฎระเบียบภายในพื้นที่เมืองเก่า ปรากฎการณ์ของเจนตริฟิเคชัน (gentrification) รวมทั้งการมาถึงของโครงการรถไฟฟ้า ซึ่งโครงการรถไฟฟ้าสายสีน้ำเงิน ช่วงหัวลำโพง-บางแค ที่ใช้แนวคิดการพัฒนาเมืองโดยอาศัยสถานีรถไฟฟ้าเป็นจุดศูนย์กลาง คือโครงการการพัฒนาพื้นที่รอบสถานีรถไฟฟ้าหรือทีโอดี (Transit Oriented Development : TOD) มีจุดมุ่งหมายสำคัญที่ช่วยให้คนหันมาใช้รถน้อยลงในการเดินทาง เพิ่มการใช้ระบบขนส่งสาธารณะ ส่งเสริมการเดินและใช้จักรยาน จากการศึกษาพื้นที่โดยรอบสามสถานีรถไฟฟ้า ได้แก่ สนามไชย สามยอด และวัดมังกร พบรูปแบบของการเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์ถนน แบ่งเป็น 3 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ 1) การเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์ถนนในทางกายภาพอย่างเดียว 2) การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางกายภาพที่มาจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงของกิจกรรม และ 3) การเปลี่ยนแปลงพื้นที่เชิงโครงสร้างให้กลายเป็นอาคารสถานีรถไฟฟ้าและอาคารระบายอากาศ (IVS: intervention station) ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลกระทบทั้งทางบวกและทางลบหลักๆ ได้แก่ ปัจจัยข้อกำหนดต่างๆในเกาะรัตนโกสินทร์ และปัจจัยจากสถานีรถไฟฟ้าและทีโอดี โดยเฉพาะการเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์ถนนที่มีผลมาจากปัจจัยเจนตริฟิเคชัน ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางกายภาพทั้งรูปแบบอาคาร ที่มีผลมาจากการก่อสร้างบนพื้นที่เดิม และกิจกรรมภายในพื้นที่ ซึ่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงภูมิทัศน์ถนน ทำให้เกิดความเปลี่ยนแปลงทั้งรูปแบบอาคาร ที่ว่าง และกิจกรรม

The City of Philadelphia has addressed the need to utilize vacant lots in the city’s comprehensive planning document, Philadelphia2035 (PCPC, 2010). The document encourages designers to use sustainable practices to reincorporate these abandoned lots back into the fabric of the city. Through partnerships with local organizations in Philadelphia, guidelines and suggestions were created to guide Philadelphians while they revive abandoned lot spaces. In the neighborhood of Nicetown-Tioga, Philadelphia, there is a large amount of vacant lots leaving the area blighted and without resilience. This dissertation examines four urban ecological restoration projects used as public spaces in the city of Xi'an, China. The overall goal is to understand the social and ecological implications of the site features at both design and planning scale and define what is ecological restoration in China's urban context. Adventure playgrounds have been a feature in the United Kingdom since the 1950s. Their growth and development was underpinned by ‘thinking together’, a concept in the Communities of Practice (CoP) approach. In March 2020, the United Kingdom (UK) went into lockdown. This study aimed to find out how adventure playgrounds responded to the Covid-19 situation when they reopened in July 2020. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with 18 adventure playground staff from 14 adventure playgrounds. Selecting seismic records in Global Standards is, until now, based on matching design response spectrum, where records should have seismological characteristics similar to the expected earthquake for the considered site (magnitude, distance, fault mechanism and soil conditions).
