Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Object tracking in wide area motion imagery is a complex problem that consists of object detection and target tracking over time. This challenge can be solved by human analysts who naturally have the ability to keep track of an object in a scene. A computer vision solution for object tracking has the potential to be a much faster and efficient solution. However, a computer vision solution faces certain challenges that do not affect a human analyst. To overcome these challenges, a tracking process is proposed that is inspired by the known advantages of a human analyst.

First, the focus of …

The corrosion behavior of a nanocrystalline (NC)/ultrafine grained (UFG) Al–Mg based alloy was investigated and compared to its conventional counterpart 5083(H111). The corrosion fatigue (CF) was studied with respect to pit initiation, pit location and crack propagation as a function of environment. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EDS was used to analyze the fracture surface of the failed specimen with respect to pitting characteristics, crack propagation and corrosion product. Load vs. cycles to failure was measured and S/N curves were generated for the UFG Al–Mg based alloy and the conventional counterpart 5083 in air and seawater.

Implications Of Heterogeneity In The Shock Wave Propagation Of Dynamically Shocked Materials, Jeffrey W. LaJeunesse 2015 Marquette University

Implications Of Heterogeneity In The Shock Wave Propagation Of Dynamically Shocked Materials, Jeffrey W. Lajeunesse

Master's Theses (2009 -)

The field of shock physics as a whole has only recently begun to pay particular attention to modeling heterogeneous materials under shock loading. These materials are important because of their practicality in terms of creating stronger, more shock resistant materials. To understand why they absorb shock impact energy better than homogeneous materials means that the small-scale processes that occur during the shock loading of these heterogeneous materials needs to be understood. Recent computational experiments, called mesoscale simulations, have shown that explicitly incorporating small-scale heterogeneous features into hydrocode simulations allows the bulk shock response of the heterogeneous material to be observed …

Journal of Electrochemistry

Oxidative burst by rapid, transient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a fundamental process for plant disease defense and signal transduction. ROS can be protective or toxic depending on their concentrations, and critical balance between ROS production and scavenging is regulated by complex and perfect mechanisms in plant cells. However, the process of rapid and transient ROS burst from plant cells and their regulatory mechanisms are far from being completely understood, owing to the methodological obstacles in real-time monitoring such a fast process. In this work, we showed the application of microelectrode electrochemistry with high spatiotemporal resolution to monitor …

Electrochemiluminescence Assay Based On Bipolar Electrode For Bioanalysis, Mei-Sheng Wu, Jing-Juan Xu, Hong-Yuan Chen

Journal of Electrochemistry

Bipolar electrodes (BPEs) are electronic conductors which are usually embedded into microchannels. The potential difference at the BPE/solution interface is obtained by applying a voltage at the two ends of the microchannel. When it reaches a critical value, the redox reaction takes place at both poles of the BPE simultaneously. Compared with other detection methods, the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) platform based on BPE possesses the advantages of concentration enrichment, high sensitivity, low cost, portable sensor system, no need for a light source, which is quite suitable for bioanalysis. This paper reviews the ECL-BPE strategy for bioanalysis and proposes the future research …
