Full Depth Reclamation: Compaction And Moisture Content, Alexander Jackson 2012 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Full Depth Reclamation: Compaction And Moisture Content, Alexander Jackson

Civil Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Many times a road will fail and will be in need of both a structural increase and a repair. Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) is a road rehabilitation technique able to offer both. This method also has a lower total cost and significantly lower material usage than traditional overlaying repair methods. FDR is a road repair method which mills up the current road down into the subgrade, and then stabilizes and compacts the milled material. This is also useful for correcting deeper problems in the road structure which are not addressed by traditional methods. In this study, three different suggestions of …

Bond Performance Of Lightweight Self-Consolidating Concrete, Michael Howland 2012 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Bond Performance Of Lightweight Self-Consolidating Concrete, Michael Howland

Civil Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) allows for the placement of concrete without consolidation. The use of lightweight (LW) concrete reduces dead loads and lowers transportation costs. LWSCC is a recent combination of the two types of concrete; therefore there is little information on the performance of prestressed members cast with LWSCC. This project examines transfer length of LWSCC beams and compares the measured values to control-mixture members cast with normal weight SCC. Eight prestressed beams were cast. Of the eight, four conventional were cast with SCC and the remaining four with LWSCC. The lightweight mixtures contained expanded clay aggregate and had an …

Structural Performance Of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plat Buildings Subjected To Fire, Sara Jean George 2012 University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Structural Performance Of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plat Buildings Subjected To Fire, Sara Jean George

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Reinforced concrete structures are typically considered to have inherent resistance to fire. However, several concrete structures around the world have experienced partial or total collapse under fire. Reinforced concrete flat-plate is a type of structural system widely used for office and residential buildings. Flat plate construction is prone to punching shear failure at slab-column connections which may lead to a catastrophic progressive collapse. The slabs of flat-plates generally have very thin concrete cover leaving steel reinforcement more sensitive to thermal loads. Little is known in the engineering community about the structural performance of flat-plate structures subjected to fire. Through a …

Enhancement Of Local Buckling Behaviour Of Steel Structures Retrofitted Through Bonding Gfrp Plates, Mohammad Al Amin Siddique 2012 The University of Western Ontario

Enhancement Of Local Buckling Behaviour Of Steel Structures Retrofitted Through Bonding Gfrp Plates, Mohammad Al Amin Siddique

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

An effective technique involving the use of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) plates to enhance the local buckling behaviour of steel plates, beams, and moment resisting frames is presented in this Thesis. The enhancement in buckling capacity is achieved by bonding GFRP plates to the steel sections. These steel/GFRP joints have the advantages of ease of application, low cost, high strength-to-weight ratio, and resistance to corrosion. An interface element that simulates the behaviour of the adhesive bonding the steel and GFRP elements is developed and is implemented into an in-house developed finite element model to represent steel/GFRP joints. The model …

Enhancement Factors For The Vertical Response Of Footbridges Subjected To Stochastic Crowd Loading, Colin Caprani, Joe Keogh, Paul Archbold, Paul Fanning 2012 Technological University Dublin

Enhancement Factors For The Vertical Response Of Footbridges Subjected To Stochastic Crowd Loading, Colin Caprani, Joe Keogh, Paul Archbold, Paul Fanning

Articles

The vertical acceleration response of a hypothetical footbridge is predicted for a sample of single pedestrians and a crowd of pedestrians using a probabilistic approach. This approach uses statistical distributions to account for the fact that pedestrian parameters are not identical for all pedestrians. Enhancement factors are proposed for predicting the response due to a crowd based on the predicted accelerations of a single pedestrian. The significant contribution of this work is the generation of response curves identifying enhancement factors for a range of crowd densities and synchronization levels.

Age, Gender, And Muscle Strength: A Study Based On Indonesian Samples, Henny Henny, Hardianto Iridiastadi, Iftikar Zahedi Sutalaksana

Makara Journal of Technology

Age and gender have been commonly used as a main criterion in accepting a job aplicant, but it is usually not clear how these affect job performance. While a number of recent studies have been done that describe the relationships between age, gender, and participants capacity (e.g., muscle strength), the results have been inconclusive. In Indonesia, in particular, such issues have been rarely investigated, and it is still important to study the issue since the relationships between these factors are population-specific. This study aimed at describing the relationships between age and muscle strength among workers for both genders. Ninety-six male …

Use Of Mill Certficates To Establish Material Properties In Testing Of Colf-Formed Steel Compoenents, Tim Stauffer, Paul Mcentee

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

Testing is often used to establish the available strength of cold-formed steel components. The evaluation of this test data requires adjustment based on the material properties of the tested components to account for values that exceed the minimum specified values. Currently, it is required that this adjustment be based on samples taken from the tested specimen or the flat sheet used to form the test specimen. However, in many cases it is not practical to obtain these samples. Instead, it is desired to permit an alternate that allows the use of mechanical properties reported by the steel supplier. The purpose …
