To address the application of an ultra-thin wearing course in expressway asphalt pavement maintenance engineering，the ultra-thin wearing course system based on the balance design concept was systematically studied.In this paper，the action mechanism and application characteristics of modifiers were analyzed，and the proportion design test of the ultra-thin wearing course was designed based on the balance design method.Finally，according to the proportion design test，the optimal proportion of the ultra-thin wearing course material was selected for test road paving.Research shows that the direct-cast high viscosity modifier is convenient for transportation and storage，improves the elastic recovery of asphalt mixtures and reduces permanent deformation.Under the condition …

Owing to poor gradation and high liquid limit and plasticity index，the application of gravel laterite on road paving is limited in West Africa.To overcome this issue，laterite granule combined with sand at different content was explored.The performance including the particle composition，limit water content and CBR value was investigated.The results indicate that sand treatment can improve the gradation，enhance the compactness，and reduce the plasticity index.The improved gravel laterite can meet the requirements of subbase，cushion，and base courses.Cement treatment can improve the mechanical properties of laterite grains.Cement and sand content affect the unconfined compressive strength significantly，with an optimal sand content range identified.Specifically，laterite granules mixed with …

To fly an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), commonly referred to as a “drone,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires pilots to pass a knowledge test. There is no requirement at the state or federal level for drone operators to demonstrate the ability to operate a UAS. The National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) has created an exam for public and private entities to assess basic UAS flight proficiency. Cost estimating in the construction industry is challenging due to the high uncertainty associated with the supply chain, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Some research studies have addressed such problems by developing models that predict material cost. This research introduces an advanced framework which employs parametric wind field models for peak wind speeds, and building fragility curves, loss functions, and demographic data to estimate for estimating housing damage and loss. The uninhabitable units immediate displaced households, short-term and long-term shelter need households are determined. with a particular focus on those eligible for FEMA assistance. The framework's validity is reinforced by a high correlation in the analysis of recent hurricane events between estimated numbers of displaced households and actual FEMA aid recipients, where FEMA aids about 20-60% of the predicted long-term displaced households.
