Construction Of Concrete Shear Wall & Modular Foundations - Procurement And Quality Control, Justin J. Coffin

Construction Management

This project details the planning, construction, quality control, and logistics processes throughout the construction of a concrete shear wall and modular footings. The project focused on constructing the wall and footings as they were designed to ensure they meet strength parameters to be used in the High Bay Lab at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo for seismic testing. The complex designs, encompassing dense rebar gages and post tensioned bars, required extensive hours of labor and quality control. This paper will cover the main phases of the construction process and how they were acquired. Furthermore, the considerations taken …

Resources To Support Adu Construction, Eleanor Rheingans 2024 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Resources To Support Adu Construction, Eleanor Rheingans

Construction Management

This survey examines whether cities with a higher number of online resources will result in a higher proportion of ADU permits and a lower wait time for approval. Some cities have offered online resources directly related to the ADU permitting and construction process. The seven online resources were selected based on interviews with developers. Data used is from 2018 to 2023. Other factors seem to affect the number of permits issued more than resources the cities post for public access. While developers do want the resources cities are currently offering, there are some gaps, particularly records of past permit costs …

Exploring The Impact Of Personal Protective Equipment (Ppe) Quality On Construction Individuals, Daniel Seo 2024 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Exploring The Impact Of Personal Protective Equipment (Ppe) Quality On Construction Individuals, Daniel Seo

Construction Management

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential in protecting workers on construction sites. Construction sites are known to have various hazards that can lead to death or injury. While PPEs are designed to protect workers from these injuries, its usage and quality affects its capability. As PPE is distributed by construction companies, it is imperative to identify the determinants of quality PPE. These factors include psychological factors like perceived risk, comfort, and safety attitudes. Two surveys were conducted on seventeen (17) construction management industry individuals and twenty-one (21) construction management students to determine the preferences of PPE and their views regarding …

Forecasting Future Research Trends In The Construction Engineering And Management Domain Using Machine Learning And Social Network Analysis, Gasser G. Ali, Islam H. El-Adaway, Muaz O. Ahmed, Radwa Eissa, Mohamad Abdul Nabi, Tamima Elbashbishy, Ramy Khalef

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) is a broad domain with publications covering interrelated subdisciplines and considered a key source of knowledge sharing. Previous studies used scientometric methods to assess the current impact of CEM publications; however, there is a need to predict future citations of CEM publications to identify the expected high-impact trends in the future and guide new research efforts. To tackle this gap in the literature, the authors conducted a study using Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and Social Network Analysis (SNA) to predict CEM-related citation metrics. Using a dataset of 93,868 publications, the authors trained and tested two …

Sustainable And Cost-Effective Work Zone Scheduling On Two-Lane Highways With Managed Lanes, Ahmed Z. Edrees 2024 New Jersey Institute of Technology

Sustainable And Cost-Effective Work Zone Scheduling On Two-Lane Highways With Managed Lanes, Ahmed Z. Edrees

Dissertations

Roadway maintenance projects greatly influence the roadway capacity, resulting in potential traffic disturbances captured by delays. Additionally, costs associated with these projects tend to be exorbitantly extensive. Most agencies and planners try to find a solution that minimizes roadway maintenance costs, traffic delays, crash risks, and environmental impact.

Work zones on two-way two-lane roadway typically avoids high-demand periods. Lane-closure scenario is commonly used and converts the open lane into a phantom intersection, alternating two-direction movements on one lane with the help of a flagger or a temporary signal. Alternatively, using shoulders as temporarily managed lanes allows for simultaneous two-way movements …

Effect Of Waste Covid-19 Masks On Compaction Characteristics Of Silty-Clay Soil, Sydney K. Lawson 2024 Georgia Southern University

Effect Of Waste Covid-19 Masks On Compaction Characteristics Of Silty-Clay Soil, Sydney K. Lawson

Honors College Theses

The present study aims to explore the effect of adding shredded waste Covid-19 masks to silty-clay soil on the soil’s compaction characteristics for beneficial use in embankment, the subgrade of roadways, or backfill. This was accomplished by using two different types of masks: blue surgical masks and KN95 masks. Both mask types were hand shredded into half-inch sections using safety-scissors. The maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture content (OMC) are the two most important compaction characteristics, and they were determined by the Standard Proctor Compaction Test (ASTM D698 / AASHTO T99). The change of both the MDD and OMC …

Quality Assurance And Quality Control For Reinforced Concrete Inspections, Calvin O. Walters Jr. 2024 CUNY New York City College of Technology

Quality Assurance And Quality Control For Reinforced Concrete Inspections, Calvin O. Walters Jr.

Publications and Research

Ensuring the safety and longevity of structures is paramount in concrete construction projects. Cases like the Big Dig ceiling collapse, which occurred on July 10, 2006, when a concrete ceiling panel measuring 20' x 40' and debris weighing 26 short tons (52,000 lb) fell within Boston's Fort Point Channel Tunnel, underscore this importance (Wald, M. L., 2007). Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) are crucial in mitigating such risks. QA ensures that materials and methods meet predetermined performance, design, and reliability standards specified in contracts and customer arrangements. On the other hand, QC is a strategic process businesses use …

Reasearch On Fatigue Failure Law In Tension‑Shear Zone Behind Wheel In Rigid And Flexible Composite Pavement, Cheng Xiaoliang, Deng Fuhao, Wang Yang, Han Leilei, Zhou Wujun

Journal of China & Foreign Highway

In order to study the slippage mechanism of asphalt concrete overlay on continuous reinforced concrete composite pavement (CRCP),the structure of the composite pavement was modeled using the elastic layered system, and the interlayer bonding state of the model was calibrated by the measured data of the road.In the analysis of interlayer mechanical behavior,it was found that when the horizontal force coefficient was 1,there existed a tension-shear zone behind the wheel, which may lead to the failure of this zone prior to the position of the maximum interlayer shear stress.Relevant test data analysis shows that when the horizontal force coefficient is 1,under the …

Multi-Region Plane Fitting Algorithm For Texture Depth Of Asphalt Pavements, Zhu Feng, Feng Xingle, Wu Chuan, Lin Xiaoyong

Journal of China & Foreign Highway

The existing calculation methods for texture depth of asphalt pavements are easily affected by external and human factors. Therefore,a multi-region plane fitting algorithm for the texture depth based on three-dimensional (3D) linear laser data was proposed. The algorithm preprocessed the collected 3D height data matrix of the pavement and derived a slope-based adaptive filtering algorithm for point cloud data. Then, the 3D height matrix was divided into multiple regions, and the local extremum of the center point was determined. Finally, with the three-point and one-surface plane fitting algorithm as the core, the texture depth of asphalt pavements was calculated. The experimental results show that the correlation between this …
