Domestic relationship violence occurs when one partner in a relationship tries to overpower the other. Abusers use guilt, fear, shame, intimidation and other means to control. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, so it is important to be aware of the warning signs. While physical abuse may be the most common and obvious danger, emotional and psychological damage is severe and can cause devastating effects on the individual. Gaining awareness about dating violence and how it affects students on college campuses throughout the country can make us more effective helping professionals.

The transition from high school to college can be a challenging time for some students. Feelings of loneliness, being homesick, and being anxious about starting a new chapter in life are common emotions a transitioning college student may have. Solid preparation and mental foresight can prove to be useful in making for a successful transition to college from high school. Often times the new college atmosphere is too much for some students to handle, so it is encouraged that future college students learn all they can before this transition begins.

Also, sexual addition affects more men than women. However, one in every six women is sexual addicts. Sexual addition is reported as individuals who cannot manage their lives due to this addiction. School counselors need multicultural competence to implement comprehensive school counseling programs that promote the academic achievement of all students. Prior research demonstrates that school counselors have reported high levels of multicultural competence. However, there is no evidence that this self-perceived competence translates into practice. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of how practicing professional school counselors conceptualize multicultural competence and how they implement it into their work. There is a paucity of research on the topic of professional school counselors and their perceptions of families. The purpose of this phenomenological, qualitative study was to examine how urban professional school counselors perceive low-income families in their schools. To accomplish this investigation, ten school counselors in two urban school districts were interviewed twice and were then sent an email with follow-up questions. The data was analyzed for themes and patterns, which were subjected to verification procedures. The purpose of this study was to propose why it makes sense to practice child welfare social work in the public school system (kindergarten through 12th grade), and to evaluate why there is a need for child protective services (CPS) child welfare social workers to be active and out-stationed in the public school setting. A questionaire was developed to interview and obtain responses from nine experienced retired and prior social workers.

As testing becomes an achievement marker for elementary school children, test anxiety would naturally follow for these children. This study looks at test anxiety in third grade students, as well as relaxation training as a treatment modality to deal with that anxiety. One hundred and four third grade students participated in this study. Those students that received relaxation training experienced less test anxiety after the treatment. Students in the control group showed no changes in test anxiety. The use of relaxation training among third grade students may be a beneficial method for teachers to reduce anxiety in their students.
