This dissertation study utilized Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to understand the acculturation and sojourner experience of undergraduate Indian international students in the U.S. Midwest. Focusing exclusively on the lived experience of these students, this study engaged Berry’s Fourfold Model of Acculturation (Berry, 1992, 1994) and the ABC Model of Acculturation as presented by Ward et al., (2001) to amplify the voices of three participants to bring forth the meaning they attach to their experiences. It is imperative that higher education institutions learn more about how to recruit members of younger generations to participate in future elections. Young people have historically voted at low rates, but that trend has started to change in recent years as more resources are being devoted to voter engagement among young people. This leads to the interest of understanding what best practices and strategies have academic institutions utilized to advance voter engagement on their campuses. The Greatest Taboo: Examining The Perceptions And Experiences Of Lgbtq Students Attending A Church-Affilated Historically Black College And University (Hbcu), Rhonda Lachey Lovelace

To examine the undergraduate experiences and perceptions of students who self-identify as LGBTQ during their matriculation at two church-affiliated historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), this cross-comparison qualitative case study sought the following: 1) to determine common experiences that positively and/or negatively shaped their college choice decisions, 2) to better understand LGBTQ students’ college choices and decisions, and 3) to better understand the climate and culture of the participating institutions and to help identify ways in which those institutions could work to be more inclusive of its LGBTQ students. Preceptorship Within Accredited Nutrition And Dietetics Programs: A Pragmatic Mixed Methods Study, Angela K. Brekken

The purpose of this pragmatic mixed-methods study was to identify the factors that impact a nutrition professional’s preceptorship decision and potential solutions to combat preceptor shortages within accredited nutrition and dietetics programs. Homan’s social exchange theory provided the theoretical framework that if perceived costs of preceptorship outweigh the perceived benefits, then the activity will cease.

Phase one of the study included an online mixed-methods questionnaire. Phase two included a qualitative focus group and interview with self-identified volunteers from phase one. Quantitative analysis through SPSS included descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) and inferential statistics (one-way ANOVA). Qualitative data for both …
