Linear programming is a tool that has been successfully applied to various problems across many different industries and businesses. However, it appears that casino operators may have overlooked this useful and proven method. At most casino properties the bulk of gaming revenues are derived from slot machines. It is therefore imperative for casino operators to effectively manage and cultivate the performance of this department. The purpose of this study was to identify and measure the effects of Hofstede‟s cultural factors on escalation of commitment for hospitality managers among American and Chinese managers. Typical cultural factors include power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism and collectivism, masculinity and femininity, and orientation. Escalation of commitment refers to making decisions in risky circumstances. First, the effect of cultural factors on escalation of commitment was measured through antecedents (mediator variables). Second, the first effect of antecedents on escalation of commitment was measured through agency and negative framing effects. Structural equation modeling (SEM) found significant relationships between cultural factors and mediator …

The purpose of this study was to examine the further revenue growth potential for Kangwon Land casino in the context of visitor's spending trend. Using table games drop as an indicator of overall gaming demand, a time series regression with dummy variables was utilized to develop a forecast model for table games drop. Then, the predicted data was divided by the number of visitors in an effort to control for the visitor effect. This 2-year study examined the food safety knowledge of food vendors at one of Indiana's largest festivals, and compared it with health inspection violations at this event. Ninety-four percent of nonprofit food vendors in 2006 and 100% of nonprofit food vendors in 2008 participated. Descriptive statistics, correlation matrices, and general linear models (GLM) were employed. Results for average knowledge scores were that respondents were able to correctly answer 6.16 out of 10 questions (62%) in 2006 and 10.2 out of 14 (73%) in 2008. The objective of this study was to identify meeting patterns and trends related to chapter, regional, and/or annual conference attendance. Factors likely to increase attendance, attendance trends over a 5-year period, recommendations by association members, and the preferred mode of delivery were identified. Results will assist meeting planners in providing maximum benefits to association members and to potentially increase attendance at each conference level.
