Hotel Room Rate And Availability Parity Across Electronic Distribution Channels, Subashini Selvaraj

This is an exploratory research paper looking at the parity of hotel room rates and hotel room availability across electronic distribution channels. The fulfillment of the best rate guarantee of hotels was also analyzed. The study surveyed 40 hotels in Singapore, covering 4 hotel segments, luxury, upscale, mid-market and budget with data collected over 5 dates. The results were analyzed across segments and dates of collection and it was found that neither rate nor room availability parity existed across all the hotels surveyed. As government regulations and penalties for non-compliance increase, highly regulated, government funded programs (HRGFPs) are pressed to meet regulatory compliance demands that are perceived to override agency and consumer needs. This research builds upon classic theoretical studies to reconceptualize how power dependence and resource dependence impact government-agency interactions, relations and program effectiveness. Survey results from a national sample of federally funded Head Start organizations suggest: (1) agency/government co- rather than inter-dependency; (2) compliant rather than innovative agency behavior, and (3) age, auspice and funding levels effects on agency/government relations.

Boards of directors govern practically all organizations of significant size in the public and private sector. Improving the understanding of how boards function is critical because when boards fail, the results can be devastating. Little is understood about the functioning of boards of directors in the public sector, which accounts for a significant amount of the gross national product of the world's economy. The FROST Method is presented which improves the efficiency of long-term sustainment of hardware systems. The FROST Method makes sustainment and scheduling decisions based on the minimization of the expected value of current and future costs. This differs from current methods which tend to base decisions not on the expected value of costs, but on the expected inventory demand found through projections using data which is often inaccurate.

Distributions are used to account for randomness and inaccuracy in inputs such as failure rates and vendor-claimed dates for end of production. A Monte Carlo technique is then used to convert these …

This project’s objective is to demonstrate how public transportation is altering the way Que Delicious, a local restaurant, reaches out to new customers. The effects of public transportation on a business are significant reasons explaining why Que Delicious, a business in East Los Angeles, exists within a particular market that was disrupted by the Metro Gold Line which was built in front of the business. Token Presence Or Substantive Participation? A Study Of Labor Trustees On Pension Boards, Anil Verma, Johanna Weststar

Management and Organizational Studies Publications

In contrast to their absence from corporate boards in North America, labor representatives do have a seat on many pension boards. Given the lack of research on the role of labor participation in these fora, this study reports findings from a survey of labor trustees. We find that labor trustees make greater contributions to procedure-oriented processes such as information sharing, rule-making and rule interpretation; and, fewer contributions to investment-oriented processes such as investment decisions, fund performance and manager selection. Gender does not seem to matter in explaining participation in board activities. Accountability in terms of a requirement to report back …
