Stephen Sadow

The journal Por Granada publishes the student's final project of the course Spain in Context taught by Prof. Lamas at Fordham in Granada. Rather than the academic research papers, the preferred format is the well-informed article of investigative journalism. All articles are the result of thoughtful teamwork of their authors and have been originally written in Spanish.

This article examines the program of bringing itinerant art museums to the rural areas implemented by the Misiones Pedagógicas of Spain’s Second Republic. My analysis seeks to answer the following questions: a) Why did the government support these initiatives while peasants were using violence to contest its agrarian reform? b) How did museums fit into the Republic’s program of public education? And 3) how did they treat the peasants' own culture? Tracing the philosophical foundations of the Museo del Pueblo in Manuel Bartolomé de Cosso's (1857–1935) theory of leisure, I discuss Cosso's indebtedness to late-Victorian uses of art education for …

The Evaluation Of A Mixed Methodological Model To Improve The Productive And Receptive Skills In Spanish As A Fl/Sl: An Experimental Study, Kerwin A. Livingstone
Kerwin A. Livingstone
This present article seeks to provide a mixed methodological model for the development and implementation of a Teaching Module for Spanish as a Foreign Language in the face to face environment. The primary objective is to portray how methodological principles from different language teaching approaches - in this case, task based language teaching and cooperative learning - can be combined effectively in designing activities for face to face contexts. In this regard, empirical evidence is analysed in order to determine the effectiveness of the mixed methodology in the teaching-learning of Spanish as a Foreign Language in the said settings, in …

Input Vs Corrective Feedback In The Acquisition Of Spanish Negation, 2011 The University of Western Ontario
Input Vs Corrective Feedback In The Acquisition Of Spanish Negation, Yolanda Pangtay‐Chang
Research Day (Arts & Humanities, FIMS, and Education)
Input is important and necessary to acquire a language, nevertheless output will tell us in what degree the language has been acquired.
Since other factors such as motivation affect acquisition, what type of feedback is necessary and in what amount to help L2 students correct their proficiency in the target language?
Ellipsis And Agree: Parallelism Effects In Spanish Noun Drop, 2011 The University of Western Ontario
Ellipsis And Agree: Parallelism Effects In Spanish Noun Drop, Joyce Bruhn De Garavito
Research Day (Arts & Humanities, FIMS, and Education)
In Spanish it is possible to drop nouns in order to avoid repetition. Noun drop is very productive (Ticio 2001; 2005).
Given the high level of accuracy in gender concord found in previous studies (Bruhn de Garavito and White 2002; White et al 2004, among others) I predict that adult learners of Spanish have the appropriate representation of number and gender in their L2. They will therefore distinguish between these two features under ellipsis.
