La Guerra Civil Española: Un Estudio De La Literatura Como Un Mecanismo De Recuperar La Memoria Colectiva, Lindsay R. Delp

Scripps Senior Theses

Modern Languages and Literatures Student Publications

The magazine Por Granada publishes the students’ final project of the course Spain in Context taught by Prof. Lamas at Fordham in Granada. Rather than the academic research paper, the preferred format is the well-informed article of investigative journalism. Topics are chosen in consultation with Prof. Lamas and Begoña Calatrava, and must involve a demanding first-hand fieldwork in Granada. A number of interviews with locals are required to have the project approved. Students are requested to find their own sources and to create an adequate network of contacts to fully understand the chosen subject matter. All articles are the result …

La España Negra En Color: El Desarrollismo Turístico, La Auto-Etnografía Y España Insólita (Javier Aguirre, 1965), Eugenia Afinoguénova

Sexism In Teaching Spanish: Linguistic Discrimination Is Sometimes Unconscious, Aileen Dever 2012 Quinnipiac University

Sexism In Teaching Spanish: Linguistic Discrimination Is Sometimes Unconscious, Aileen Dever

Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning

The Spanish language is becoming more flexible in creating feminine forms for occupational names that correspond with the already existing masculine terms. However, there has been some resistance among Spaniards with regard to using feminine forms like física to refer to a physicist who is a woman. Similarly, there have been objections to química (chemist, chemistry), música (musician, music), and others because, some say, such terms are ambiguous and confusing with regard to the professions. Do words and the way they are used significantly affect their meaning? The author discusses this question by highlighting linguistic discrimination in Spanish that is …

Voces Fabuladas Contra Estatuas Míticas: Francisco Herrera Luque Y Su Aproximación Literaria A La Historia Venezolana, Juan Vicente Ayala 2012 University of South Florida

Voces Fabuladas Contra Estatuas Míticas: Francisco Herrera Luque Y Su Aproximación Literaria A La Historia Venezolana, Juan Vicente Ayala

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This thesis postulates the narrative of Venezuelan psychiatrist and novelist Francisco Herrera Luque as one that demystifies the official historical discourse of his nation.

Our argument is developed through a two-part analysis. First, we present and examine the author's characteristic method, one that he called "fabled history", and the way it deals with elements of Venezuela's historical past. Secondly, we analyze the way Herrera Luque, while crafting an undoubtedly historical narrative, also analyzes many elements of the Venezuelan idiosyncrasy and identity through the illustration of colonial life in the nation, in particular within the oligarchic social class known as mantuanos, …

Orthography-Induced Transfer In L2 Phonological Acquisition Of Spanish, Yasaman Rafat

Research Day (Arts & Humanities, FIMS, and Education)

  1. Does exposure to orthographic input promote L1- based phonological transfer, leading to non-target- like productions in English-speaking learners of Spanish?
  2. Do condition of learning and production and grapheme-to-phoneme (in)consistency modulate the rate of orthography-induced transfer?
