In this regard, writers such as G. K. Chesterton and J. R. R. Tolkien can be understood as theologians who "offer a theology of art as practice," a practical theology that takes the reader "into an intuition of being through the enchanted experience of art" (p. 166). In this regard, the writings of Chesterton and Tolkien provide a much-needed renewal as they counter "the loss of sign-making capaciti'" and the "draining of shared meaning from cultural discourse in the twentieth century" (p. 163).

Hermeneutic is originally derived from Greek term Hermeneuein, this term was Hermeneutikos which contains three basic meanings, which are, revelation, explanation and interpretation. These meanings came to existence as hermeneutic is applied in studying the Koran in the 19th century, but then tensions arise between Muslim scholars as to which definition is deemed appropriate. This research aims to rediscover mission as taught by the Old Testament and to show how that mission is consistent with God's loving and just character as reflected in the whole Bible. Toward this end, the research surveys assumptions that influence Old Testament mission theology and evaluates ways in which current theologies of mission and theological currents relate to the unity and continuity of the Bible. With this background, the study then proposes a comprehensive theological framework that preserves the unity of God's character and his mission.

This study analyzes the teaching of the early twentieth-century Seventh-day Adventist writer M. L. Andreasen regarding a final-generation perfection that vindicates God in the great controversy between good and evil, comparing Andreasen’s views with related concepts in the writings of previous Adventist writers.

Purpose

The study has the limited objective of attempting to trace possible antecedents for Andreasen’s final-generation theology in the writings of other Adventists, in order to determine the degree of uniqueness or variance in Andreasen’s views. The ‘messianic’ is one of philosophy’s most appropriated religious terms, yet one apparently now bereft of its historical religious particularity. This essay thus explores a genealogical approach to the ‘messianic’ which might prove helpful in uncovering the reasons for this transformation from the theological to the philosophical, and what role, if any, theology still has in determining the meaning and usage of this term. Accordingly, this essay traces the term through the work of Walter Benjamin, Jacques Derrida and Giorgio Agamben.
