A Lay Member Church Planting Strategy For Unreached Areas In The West Tanzania Field, Jacob Ngussa Bohole 2014 Andrews University

A Lay Member Church Planting Strategy For Unreached Areas In The West Tanzania Field, Jacob Ngussa Bohole

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem. There seems to be a persistent tendency among church members to perceive ministry as the sole responsibility of the paid professional pastor: This is in contradiction with the New Testament concept of the priesthood of all believers (1 Pet 2:5, 9-10), which emphasizes that ministry is the function of the total church membership. The purpose of this research is to develop and implement a strategy to empower and involve lay people in ministry and mission in the West Tanzania Field.

Method. The methodology employed in the process of this research is threefold: (a) to examine Old and New Testaments …

New Member Retention Strategy For The Makoko Church, Yoseph Nyambega Otieno 2014 Andrews University

New Member Retention Strategy For The Makoko Church, Yoseph Nyambega Otieno

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The effort made by the Makoko Seventh-day Adventist Church to fulfill the great commission (Matt 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16) through public evangelism is challenged by the constant exodus of newly baptized converts out of the church. The emigration of new members out of the church has a compound effect on the church; it denies the church the opportunity to disciple new converts and discourages church members from continuing to fund public evangelisms as they are considered a waste of resources. When people accept Jesus they also receive eternal life, but when they leave the church they risk forfeiting the gift …

Strategy For Increasing The Participation Of Students From A Seventh-Day Adventist Background In Spiritual Activities In Kisii University, Richard O. Ayako 2014 Andrews University

Strategy For Increasing The Participation Of Students From A Seventh-Day Adventist Background In Spiritual Activities In Kisii University, Richard O. Ayako

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The 1992 Annual Council of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists noted that "too often Adventist students on public campuses feel like second-class citizens; not only do they not fit in with the lifestyle of their secular campus, but the local church often ignores their needs, sometimes overtly suggesting that they are inferior to students who have chosen an Adventist education" (General Conference, 2005, p. 250). Kisii University serves as an example of a public university with low participation in spiritual activities by students from an Adventist background.

Method

A critical analysis of Bible texts on involvement of young …

A Biblical Strategy To Promote Christian Morality Among Youth In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In The Zambia Union Conference, Tommy Susiku Namitondo 2014 Andrews University

A Biblical Strategy To Promote Christian Morality Among Youth In The Seventh-Day Adventist Church In The Zambia Union Conference, Tommy Susiku Namitondo

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

A good number of the youth in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Zambia are openly involved in immoral behavior. The youth blame peer pressure and modernity for their lack of Christian morality. The issue is whether youth in today's atmosphere can maintain a biblical norm of moral purity.

Method

A systematic study of the Bible was made. Then the writings of Ellen G. White, other Adventist writers, and other Christian authors were reviewed. This data was used to develop seminar materials for teaching Christian morality to young people. Four congregations were selected to pilot a program to demonstrate that …

What Makes A Man: Gender And Sexual Boundaries On Evangelical Christian Sexuality Websites, Kelsy Burke 2014 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

What Makes A Man: Gender And Sexual Boundaries On Evangelical Christian Sexuality Websites, Kelsy Burke

Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications

This article examines how some evangelical Christian men create alternative meanings associated with gender-deviant sex in order to justify it within an evangelical framework. The author shows how Christian sexuality website users construct gender omniscience—a spouse and God’s all-knowing certainty about one’s ‘‘true’’ gender identity—to reconcile men’s interests in non-normative sex with their status as Christian patriarchs. By constructing gender as relational and spiritual, they simultaneously normalize their behaviors while condemning others who participate in similar acts but fail to meet the requirements of gender omniscience. Challenging common assumptions about evangelical sexuality, this article offers insights into the intersection of …

Seeking To Glorify God: An Armed Forces Member's Handbook For Discipleship, Charles Blankenship 2014 Liberty University

Seeking To Glorify God: An Armed Forces Member's Handbook For Discipleship, Charles Blankenship

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this thesis is to equip military Christians in glorifying God through obedience to the Great Commission. Jesus' command to make disciples applies universally to all Christians, yet those in the armed forces often retreat or experience little success in discipleship within their native environment where they feel restricted by institutional policy, ungodly leadership, and isolation from the body of Christ. This project proposes a practical method of discipleship that seeks to equip Christians in uniform to make passionate followers of Christ who willingly embrace the same mission. The research for this thesis will be primarily conducted by …

Keep The Fire Burning: Biblical Principles For A Church To Spark Revival In The Northeast, Bruce Aubrey 2014 Liberty University

Keep The Fire Burning: Biblical Principles For A Church To Spark Revival In The Northeast, Bruce Aubrey

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The northeastern United States, land of Dwight L. Moody and Charles Grandison Finney, was once a place of great revival. Local churches and their pastors passionately served the Lord and His purposes. Schools were built for the training of godly ministers and leaders. While some revival fires still burn, others are smoldering; some fires have died. Hosting "Keep the Fire Burning" conferences gives Northside Baptist Church, Liverpool, New York, an opportunity to be a catalyst for revival and renewal in the Northeast from the country to the cities. An annual pastors' and leaders' conference will be a tool and launching …

Two By Two Leadership: A Model Of Christian Leadership, Joseph Swanner 2014 Liberty University

Two By Two Leadership: A Model Of Christian Leadership, Joseph Swanner

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

A growing number of scholars are accepting the suggestion that shared leadership is preferred over individual leadership. The shared leadership model is proliferating into new fields where it is being modified and improved. Biblically, there is a pattern of sending individuals two by two into leadership, as well. Christian leadership models of the future must also return to the two by two, co-leader ideal. There is room for strategizing the details of what this model will look like on a practical level. Utilizing a case study and surveys, this project examines the effects of this leadership model in a church …

Revitalizing The Women's Ministry: Women Mentoring To The Women – A Titus 2 Project, Iva Thomas

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Women are ministering in significant roles within the church today. A large number of churches are using women in various leadership roles and implementing mentoring programs through spiritually mature females. One of the problems facing churches today is the structuring of a strategic training program for mentors. This project will devise a strategic nine-week biblical mentoring training project for the more mature Christian women within the inner city churches of Houston, Texas and surrounding areas. The goal is to promote spiritual health and growth that will encourage positive lifestyle choices in younger females. The methodology utilized data obtained from several …

Upcycling Church: New Hope For Transforming Declining And Plateaued Churches, Richard J. Frazer 2014 Spiritual Overseers Service International

Upcycling Church: New Hope For Transforming Declining And Plateaued Churches, Richard J. Frazer

Great Commission Research Journal

This article introduces new language and an alternative paradigm to the topic of revitalizing declining churches, which presents a transforming process for pastors, church leaders, denominational executives, and consultants to implement when coaching revitalizing churches. The biblical foundation for this writing is Jesus’ letter to the church of Sardis, recorded in Revelation 3:1–6. Five principles for upcycling a declining church are presented: embrace the crisis, answer the wakeup call, strengthen what remains, strengthen who remains, and return to spiritual roots.

The Missiological Method Of Jesus According To Luke 10: Do We Follow In His Steps?, Cecil Stalnaker 2014 Tyndale, Theological Seminary, Netherlands

The Missiological Method Of Jesus According To Luke 10: Do We Follow In His Steps?, Cecil Stalnaker

Great Commission Research Journal

When it comes to evangelism and missiological methods, should we follow in the steps of Jesus? Many missionaries are doing just that. In Luke 10 Jesus instructs his disciples, giving them a method to accomplish their appointed mission. This involves three phases: (1) searching for the “person of peace”; (2) supporting a house fellowship; and (3) securing a missionary base of operations. Such an approach is certainly worth examining but only in light of the biblical authority and context as well as the missionary’s cultural context.

Biblical Empowerment: The E3 Model Of Discipleship For Equipping Women For The World, Andrea Adams 2013 Liberty University

Biblical Empowerment: The E3 Model Of Discipleship For Equipping Women For The World, Andrea Adams

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Young women spend years in the education system, but they often leave formal education without practical training that enables them to respond appropriately to life experiences. A biblically-based life-skills manual focused on practical training and holistic development will engage, equip, and empower women to honor God spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, and financially. Based on Proverbs 31 and supported by survey responses of women from various generations, the curriculum provides practical information that will benefit churches, universities, small groups, and/or mentoring relationships where women seek to follow a Titus 2 model of spiritual development.

Blended Families In Conflict: Essentials A Pastor Must Know, William Perry 2013 Liberty University

Blended Families In Conflict: Essentials A Pastor Must Know, William Perry

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The rise of blended families is becoming a prevalent dynamic in our society. According to the United States Census Bureau: American Community Survey, 2009 report, the U.S. is approaching a fifty percent divorce rate. Fifty percent will remarry within three and half years of their divorce. Of these, sixty-five percent will have children from their previous marriage. The church needs to learn to effectively minister to this ever-growing population of blended families. The purpose of this thesis project is to review the issues facing the pastor in ministering to blended families. This study will be completed through research, surveys with …

Discipleship In Education: A Plan For Creating True Followers Of Christ In Christian Schools, Joseph Allotta 2013 Liberty University

Discipleship In Education: A Plan For Creating True Followers Of Christ In Christian Schools, Joseph Allotta

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Students are often tested to evaluate their academic knowledge, but few Christian schools evaluate whether a student has become a true disciple of Christ. Schools need to know what they can do that actually has an impact. This project will focus on high school seniors at Baptist schools in the Tampa Area. Students will take a custom survey to determine their biblical knowledge, use of spiritual disciplines, and beliefs on morality, along with what factors influenced them the most. School officials will be interviewed to identify how each is attempting to influence said aspects. Special attention will be given to …

Service V. Presence: Implementation Of The Ministry Of Service In The Military Chaplaincy - A Receptivity And Feasibility Study, Mark Tinsley 2013 Liberty University

Service V. Presence: Implementation Of The Ministry Of Service In The Military Chaplaincy - A Receptivity And Feasibility Study, Mark Tinsley

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

In Spring 2012, a new ministerial paradigm for the military chaplaincy was proposed in a thesis entitled “The Ministry of Service: A Critical Practico-Theological Examination of the Ministry of Presence and its Reformulation for Military Chaplains.” Known as the “ministry of service,” this new paradigm was heralded as a potential replacement for the current presence-ministry model that has guided military chaplains for decades. The purpose of the current research project is to determine the receptivity of this proposed paradigmatic shift among Army service members, analyze strengths and weaknesses of implementing a new ministry model, and verify if procedures and administrative …
