Primacy Of Conscience: A Pastoral Theological Construction Of Agency For Catholic Moral Decision-Making, Donald Augustine Rickard 2010 University of Denver

Primacy Of Conscience: A Pastoral Theological Construction Of Agency For Catholic Moral Decision-Making, Donald Augustine Rickard

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A significant pastoral problem for some Catholics flows from the dissonance they experience when attempting to integrate certain Church teachings with the leading of their conscience as they make moral decisions. All Catholics do not accept every established moral answer or position provided by the Church and integrating those differences between the Church teaching and one's conscience can be difficult--a difficulty affecting parishioner, priest, and Church. This problem is, in part, rooted in and reinforced by the fact that there are two theological strands in the Church's tradition regarding morality. One strand suggests that the moral response is to obey …

Burdens Of Disclosure: A Pastoral Theology Of Confidentiality, Virginia R. Morgan 2010 University of Denver

Burdens Of Disclosure: A Pastoral Theology Of Confidentiality, Virginia R. Morgan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Receiving confidential disclosures can create burdens for pastoral care providers. This dissertation presents a study of pastoral confidentiality and the burdens associated with receiving confidential disclosures based on interviews with thirteen pastoral providers, a review of historical, legal and pastoral care literature. A thematic analysis of interviews identified three types of burdens associated with receiving confidential disclosures: 1) professional burdens associated with clarifying norms and standards for pastoral confidentiality in light of collegial, denominational and congregational norms; 2) ethical burdens created when the ethical value of pastoral confidentiality comes into conflict with another significant ethical value; and 3) structural burdens …

Church Growth: A Holiness Perspective, Christopher Mark Baldwin 2010 Vine Wesleyan Church

Church Growth: A Holiness Perspective, Christopher Mark Baldwin

Great Commission Research Journal

The purpose of this article is to outline the Holiness Perspective on Church Growth. Some may be tempted to think of Church Growth and Holiness as mutually exclusive ideas. This article attempts to bring these concepts together. This is accomplished through biblical, theological, and historical foundations. The biblical foundation is based on the church of Antioch and the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth. The theological foundation focuses on three aspects: missio Dei, Incarnation, and kingdom of God. The historical foundations outline a number of church planting strategies used throughout the history of the church.

Re-Thinking Evangelism: A Heart Felt Approach, Andrew Perrin 2010 Andrews University

Re-Thinking Evangelism: A Heart Felt Approach, Andrew Perrin

180 Symposium Publications

The world is changing and so must the way we do evangelism. Something everyone throughout the world shares is the fact that we all experience and exhibit feelings and emotions. When we examine these feelings and emotions we hold the key to the most powerful evangelism technique—ministering to the heart of the individual. Ministering to the heart in turn opens individuals to personal healing, spiritual growth and the understanding of identity.

Taskforce Now, Michael J. Stevenson

The world is currently wrestling with an economic downturn. As life gets rearranged; plans have to change. The convergence of a sluggish economy, lack of jobs and fewer slots available means that more Adventist young people are out of a job. At the same time the huge needs for leadership, mentoring and global economic mix up, we can seize the moment, employ and deploy hundreds to nurture the needs of thousands through the revival and adaptation of Adventist Collegiate Taskforce (ACT).

Please Sir, I Want Some More: Intentionally Biblical Community And The Public Campus, Michaela Lawrence

180 Symposium Publications

Students everywhere are crying out for more: more money, more freedom and oftentimes more knowledge. Those of us who lead them must find ways to satisfy that hunger especially when they desire spiritual food. But of course, for every desire there is a challenge. Those attending public universities must contend with the blatant secular nature of their environs—we should get to know those environs. Those attending public colleges don’t have spiritual formation built into their curriculum—we should provide them with meaningful options. And then we should do even more. “Feed my sheep,” Jesus says and he doesn’t tell us to …

Campus Based Youth Ministry: An Inclusive Approach, Scott Ward 2010 Andrews University

Campus Based Youth Ministry: An Inclusive Approach, Scott Ward

180 Symposium Publications

The Adventist church has a rich history of campus-based youth ministry centered on Adventist academy campuses. The Adventist system is so campus-based that many youth pastors attempting to follow churchbased models have difficulty including non-academy students in their ministries. The church’s mission is to reach all Adventist students in the community not just the ones attending Adventist schools. The solution is a campus-based youth ministry model that can be used for both academies and public high schools and can be used by youth pastors and lay youth leaders. By developing such campus-based youth ministries all high school aged Adventist students …

The outcome will be persons who grow as leaders, experience meaning in their service, and contribute significant organizational change.

The Gospel According To Moses And Elijah, Roy E. Gane

Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)

Jesus’ gospel culminates the deliverance messages of Moses and Elijah and points to our role: If we love Christ a lot because he has forgiven us a lot (Luke 7:40-47), we will find no greater joy than reconciling precious people to one another and to him before the great day of his return.

A Return To Our Roots: 1st Century Church Growth In The 21st Century, Robert E. Logan 2010 CoachNet International Ministries

A Return To Our Roots: 1st Century Church Growth In The 21st Century, Robert E. Logan

Great Commission Research Journal

This paper reviews the history of the church growth movement with the underlying question: Can such happen in the 21st Century? The origination of the church growth movement is explored with a challenge to recontextualize the posture of church growth initiatives. A key to this process is the development of leaders through both missional and relational processes. Returning to our missional roots and becoming more and more incarnational as we walk alongside the next generation of leaders will have historic impact not only for church, but for the world, for the marketplace, and for all the new ways God may …

Long Distance Managerial Intervention In Overseas Conflicts: Helping Missionaries Reframe Conflict Along Multiple Dimensions, David R. Dunaetz 2010 Claremont Graduate University

Long Distance Managerial Intervention In Overseas Conflicts: Helping Missionaries Reframe Conflict Along Multiple Dimensions, David R. Dunaetz

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

Effective ways of conflict management must be found for missionaries when no trusted mediator in the region is available. Home office management or leaders in other regions can intervene through context rich media, such as the telephone and video conferencing, to provide help. Intervention through context poor media, such as email, is much less likely to succeed. Effective managerial intervention involving interaction with each party can lead to reframing the conflict into an opportunity to cooperate and find mutually beneficial solutions. The manager can present information, ask questions, and help the parties see that resolution is possible by addressing key …
