The Third Person Of The Trinity: How The Holy Spirit Facilitates Man's Walk With God, 2016 jhevans2@liberty.edu
The Third Person Of The Trinity: How The Holy Spirit Facilitates Man's Walk With God, Jimmie H. Evans Iii
Fidei et Veritatis: The Liberty University Journal of Graduate Research
Much of the modern church knows the Father and the Son very well as part of its common worship, practice, and conversation. However, the Holy Spirit is given little more than recognition in many circles. He is referenced, talked about, and mentioned in songs and sermons, but there is often a resistance to letting Him lead the believer and the church. It is vital that the church opens its eyes to the indwelling, personal, and powerful Spirit which the Lord has sent to them. Through a study of the role of the Holy Spirit within the Scriptures, as well as …

Vision And Mission–Part 2: Christ, Spirituality, And The Emerging Remnant Church, 2016 Andrews University
Vision And Mission–Part 2: Christ, Spirituality, And The Emerging Remnant Church, Fernando L. Canale
Journal of the Adventist Theological Society
"In this article we continue our journey exploring the direct connection that exists between vision and everyday life by (1) considering what it means to live out the vision spiritually and the difference its various interpretations have on the spiritual and missionary life of the church. After (2) exploring the oft-forgotten vision-spirituality-church-mission connection operating within the church, we will (3) survey the way in which it relates to the neutralization of Scripture. Finally, we will (4) seek ways to maximize the church’s rich human resources to overcome the neutralization of Scripture and unleash the power of God’s Word on a …
Global South Christianity And Adventism: Trends And Implications, 2016 Andrews University
Global South Christianity And Adventism: Trends And Implications, Christopher R. Mwashinga
Andrews University Seminary Student Journal
In recent decades, Christianity has experienced two major phenomena as a religion: its decline in the global North (Europe and North America) and its rise in the global South (Africa, Asia, and South America). The Seventh-day Adventist Church as a denomination has experienced similar trends. The global South has become the home to the majority of Adventists in the world and the global North is now home to only a minority. Studies show that this southward movement in Christian and Adventist demographics may continue for several decades. Studies also indicate a steady growth of other world religions on the continent …
Ethics Of Love? Morality And The Meaning Of Divine Love, 2016 Andrews University
Ethics Of Love? Morality And The Meaning Of Divine Love, John C. Peckham
Andrews University Seminary Student Journal
While there is wide agreement on the importance of love to Christian ethics, just what an ethics of love includes and entails differs depending upon how Christian love is understood. Toward clarifying the relationship between love and Christian ethics, this essay briefly engages the highly influential agapist conception of love and questions its sufficiency as the basis of Christian ethics. Consideration of some apparent shortcomings of the agapist conception leads to the proposal that the continued quest for a more intentionally and distinctively biblical conception of divine love is integral to a compelling and faithfully Christian ethics of love.
Practical Theology From The Heart: Becoming Children Of God, 2016 University of Notre Dame Australia
Practical Theology From The Heart: Becoming Children Of God, G Morrison
Theology Papers and Journal Articles
Practical theology, like worn shoes, carries the memories of our daily lives, giving opportunities for the movement of God's word to resonate from the heart (Matt 18:35). In this article, I want to suggest that the markings we make on the road to 'the paradise of God' (Rev 2:7) reflect opportunities and capacities for growth to become children of God. This entails a difficult or even a vexing adventure of faith. For 'the children of your Father in heaven' are challenged to find meaning and truth through encounters and memories like loving 'your enemies' or praying 'for those who persecute …

Herman Bavinck Between Scholastic And Modern Psychology: Toward A "Reformed Psychology.", 2016 Calvin Theological Seminary
Herman Bavinck Between Scholastic And Modern Psychology: Toward A "Reformed Psychology.", Joohyun Kim
CTS Master of Theology (ThM) Theses
Bavinck completed his first psychology book, Principles of Psychology (Beginselen der Psychologie, 1897) in the middle of his theological writings from his interaction with the nineteenth century psychologies. In 1920, Bavinck published another psychology book entitled Biblical and Religious Psychology (Bijbelsche en Religieuze Psychologie) on the basis of solid exegesis and biblical principles. In Principles of Psychology, Bavinck intended that his psychological principles would be as worthy as the empirical psychology of his day. Kuyper also stressed the doctrinal value of faculty psychology to Bavinck’s first psychology book in his review. Yet, these two psychology books were virtually neglected both …
