The Construction Of Eco-Aesthetics And The Building Of Academic Self-Confidence, Xiangzhan Cheng 2015 Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

The Construction Of Eco-Aesthetics And The Building Of Academic Self-Confidence, Xiangzhan Cheng

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

The academic principle of constructing eco-aesthetics is "global problems and international discourse." The principle implies on the one hand the essential way for Chinese aesthetics to join the world academic community and on the other hand the path and criteria of building Chinese academic self-confidence. The way to academic self-confidence lies in Chinese academicians’ response to the global common problems from the perspective of eco-aesthetics, researches delivered in internationally communicable discourse, and resolution to deal with academic issues of international importance.

The Logic Of Space: The Internal Relationships Within The Spatial Layers Of Literary Context, Jie Xu 2015 Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

The Logic Of Space: The Internal Relationships Within The Spatial Layers Of Literary Context, Jie Xu

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

Just as linguistic context is divided into three layers: verbal context, situational context and socio-cultural context, so the literary context of literature as a language art can be divided into literary textual context, literary situational context and literary cultural context. The textual context is the core layer in literary context, and literary cultural context defines the outer layer of the literary context, with situational context intermediating the inner and outer layers of literary context. Literary situational context is further divided into three interrelated dimensions which may be termed as literary media context, literary discourse context and literary function context. These …

The Creation Of Daoism, Paul Fischer 2015 Western Kentucky University

The Creation Of Daoism, Paul Fischer

Philosophy & Religion Faculty Publications

This paper examines the creation of Daoism in its earliest, pre-Eastern Han period. After an examination of the critical terms "scholar/master" and "author/ school", I argue that, given the paucity of evidence, Sima Tan and Liu Xin should be credited with creating this tradition. The body of this article considers the definitions of Daoism given by these two scholars and all of the extant texts that Liu Xin classified as "Daoist." Based on these texts, I then suggest an amended definition of Daoism. In the conclusion, I address the recent claim that the daojia /daijiao dichotomy is false, speculating that …

Film Series Commentaries

“Lone Wolves and Stray Dogs: The Japanese Crime Film, 1931–1969” is a continuing collaboration between the Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University and the National Film Center of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. Ever since the success of the French crime film Zigomar in 1911, the Japanese film industry has produced numerous movies depicting criminals and the detectives who try to apprehend them. Chivalric yakuza, modern mobsters, knife-wielding molls, hardboiled gumshoes, samurai detectives, femme fatales, and private eyes populate Japanese cinema, from period films to contemporary dramas, from genre cinema to art film, from the …

The Determinants Of Chinese Household Saving During 1978-2012, Nan Zhi 2015 College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University

The Determinants Of Chinese Household Saving During 1978-2012, Nan Zhi

Honors Theses, 1963-2015

This project focuses on how the household saving ratio changes from 1978-2013 in China and what factors caused the changes. Based China’s household saving rate changes from 1953-2000 by using the framework of the life-cycle hypothesis, Modigliani concluded that the rate of growth income and the demographic structure are the major determinant of the rate of private saving. This project attempts to extend Modigliani’s research using the data after 2000 and take changes of Chinese policy and additional factors into consideration. Estimates of coefficients of saving function will be obtained by using OLS method to analyze the relationship between household …

Buddhism, Uncertainty And Modernity In A Hometown In Heart, Ronald S. Green, Chanju Mun

Philosophy and Religious Studies

A Hometown in Heart (Maeumui gohyang, 1949), written by Ham Sedeok (1915-1950) and directed by Yun Yonggyu (b.1913), is said to be the first Korean Buddhist film. It depicts Buddhism in a remote mountain region without even electricity. The main character of the film, an orphaned child monk, must decide what to do with his life. This paper argues that the central aspect of the Buddhism-related symbols represent Korean tradition and that the supporting characters represent socio-political forces in post-liberation Korean society just after liberation, pulling the young generation of Koreans in various directions. In particular, the film centers on …

Chi Hang CHO 2015 Lingnan University

Chi Hang Cho

Dissertations from all years

Wing Kiu LOK 2015 Lingnan University

Wing Kiu Lok

Dissertations from all years

Cheuk Sum WAN 2015 Lingnan University

Cheuk Sum Wan

Dissertations from all years

Way Of The Butterfly: A Journey Towards Transformation Through Self-Portraits In-Between, Masami Koshikawa

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

It has not been easy for me to talk about myself or describe my feelings or thoughts. Coming from Japan, a collective society, we typically are not raised to do so. Throughout the MFA program at UCF, I have shared my feelings and thoughts through my work. It is important to discuss and inform others of our cultural similarities and differences so that we may gain a better understanding of each other. This process has helped me grow not only on an artistic level, but also on a personal level. My journey towards integration has led me to a meaningful …
