สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาการถ่ายทอดแนวคิดและวัจนลีลาที่โดดเด่นในกวีนิพนธ์แนวอภิปรัชญาจำนวน 6 เรื่องที่คัดสรรจากชุด Songs and Sonnets ของจอห์น ดันน์ ได้แก่ The Flea, The Apparition, Woman’s Constancy, The Canonization, The Bait และ A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning จากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับแนวคิดเชิงอภิปรัชญาและบทวิเคราะห์ลักษณะการประพันธ์ของดันน์และกวีแนวอภิปรัชญาคนอื่น ๆ เพื่อนำมาใช้ประกอบกับทฤษฎีวาทกรรมวิเคราะห์ ของคริสติอาเนอ นอร์ด ในการวิเคราะห์และทำความเข้าใจตัวบทและแนวคิดเชิงอภิปรัชญาที่สอดแทรกอยู่ พร้อมทั้งศึกษาทฤษฎีการแปลที่เกี่ยวข้อง ได้แก่ ทฤษฎีการแปลแบบครบความ ของปีเตอร์ นิวมาร์ค ทฤษฎีการแปลแบบยึดความหมาย ของมารี-อานน์ เลเดแรร์ กลวิธีในการคิดหาคำแปล ของโมนา เบเคอร์ ทฤษฎีการแปลชดเชย ของเฮอร์วีย์ ซานดอร์ และเอียน ฮิกกินส์ แนวทางการแปลวรรณกรรม ของวัลยา วิวัฒน์ศร และแนวทางการแปลกวีนิพนธ์ ของเจมส์ โฮล์มส์ เพื่อหาแนวทางการแปลที่เหมาะสมโดยเฉพาะสำหรับตัวบทประเภทกวี­นิพนธ์ พร้อมทั้งถ่ายทอดแนวคิดอภิปรัชญาที่สำคัญและลีลาการประพันธ์ของกวีเป็นร้อยกรองภาษาไทย โดยคำนึงถึงความใกล้เคียงของผลลัพธ์ที่เกิดจากเครื่องมือทางวรรณศิลป์ในภาษาไทยเมื่อเทียบกับกวีนิพนธ์ต้นฉบับ และการทำความเข้าใจความหมายของผู้อ่านกวีนิพนธ์ฉบับแปลไปควบคู่กัน เพื่อให้ผู้อ่านกวีนิพนธ์ฉบับแปลสามารถวิเคราะห์สาระสำคัญของแนวคิดอภิปรัชญาที่สอดแทรกอยู่ในกวีนิพนธ์ และได้รับสุนทรียภาพผ่านกลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์ที่กวีใช้เป็นเครื่องมือในการถ่ายทอดแนวคิดนั้นให้ได้มากที่สุด

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาความปรารถนาทางเพศของผู้หญิงในนวนิยายโรมานซ์ทะเลทรายร่วมสมัยของไทย โดยวิเคราะห์จากตัวบทคัดสรรและศึกษาการตีความของผู้อ่านเพศหญิงกลุ่มตัวอย่าง จากการศึกษาพบว่า ตัวบทคัดสรรนำเสนอเพศวิถีของตัวละครเอกหญิงสมัยใหม่ที่ยังยึดถือคุณค่าความเป็นหญิงตามขนบกุลสตรี ความปรารถนาทางเพศของตัวละครเอกหญิงจึงถูกนำเสนอภายใต้ขนบของโรมานซ์ ได้แก่ ตัวละครเอกหญิงที่อ่อนแอซึ่งมักตกเป็นเหยื่อ ความสัมพันธ์ศัตรูคู่ขัดแย้งมาเป็นคู่รัก การสร้างความหวังถึงความสุขกับตัวละครเอกชาย โดยนำมาใช้กลบเกลื่อนการแสดงออกอารมณ์ปรารถนาทางเพศให้อยู่ในกรอบเกณฑ์ศีลธรรม นอกจากนั้นพื้นที่ทะเลทรายยังถูกผูกโยงเข้ากับตัวละครชีคโดยมีบทบาทในการปลุกเร้าและเย้ายวนใจจนทำให้ดินแดนทะเลทรายกลายภาพฝันของความสุขทางเพศของตัวละครเอกหญิง จากการศึกษาผู้อ่านเพศหญิงกลุ่มตัวอย่างพบว่า การทาบเทียบตนเองเข้ากับตัวละครเอกหญิงเพื่อสร้างความรื่นรมย์ทางเพศได้ส่งผลให้ตัวละครเอกหญิงมีอิทธิพลต่อการนิยามเพศวิถีของผู้อ่านเพศหญิงกลุ่มตัวอย่างซึ่งแตกต่างกันตามสถานะคู่ครอง ดังพบว่าผู้อ่านเพศหญิงที่มีสถานะโสดมุ่งเน้นคุณลักษณะของพระเอกชีคในฐานะชายคนรักในอุดมคติ ขณะที่ผู้อ่านเพศหญิงซึ่งแต่งงานและมีสามีชาวตะวันออกกลาง นำคุณสมบัติของตัวละครเอกชีคมาเป็นมาตรวัดบทบาททางเพศของสามี อีกทั้งยังใช้ตัวบทเป็นหนทางในการเชื่อมสัมพันธ์ชุมชนการอ่านขึ้นในกลุ่มผู้หญิง ขณะที่ผู้อ่านซึ่งมีสถานะหย่าร้างนำตัวบทมาเป็นคู่มือสำหรับความสัมพันธ์รักของชีวิตคู่ในอนาคต ผลของการศึกษาจึงเผยว่า แม้ตัวบทคัดสรรจะมีบทบาทในการผลิตซ้ำเพศวิถีของผู้หญิงสมัยใหม่ที่ยังตกอยู่ภายใต้อุดมการณ์ชายเป็นใหญ่ผ่านอารมณ์ความปรารถนาทางเพศของตัวละครเอกหญิง แต่ผู้อ่านก็ได้ประโยชน์จากการปรับใช้ความหมายจากตัวบทเพื่อรับมือกับข้อจำกัดทางเพศวิถีของตนเองด้วย

อัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติของประเทศรอบนอกกับการครอบงำของประเทศมหาอำนาจในบันเทิงคดีแนววิทยาศาสตร์ร่วมสมัย, อริยะ จินะเป็งกาศ

จุดประสงค์ของงานวิจัยคือเพื่อศึกษาอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติของประเทศรอบนอกที่นำมาใช้เป็นเครื่องมือแสดงจุดยืนทางวัฒนธรรม หรือเพื่อต่อรองทางอำนาจกับประเทศใจกลางซึ่งเป็นมหาอำนาจ โดยใช้ทฤษฎีระบบโลกของเอ็มมานูเอล วอลเลอสไตน์มาอธิบายความสัมพันธ์ที่ไม่เท่าเทียมกันทางเศรษฐกิจ สังคม และวัฒนธรรม ตัวบทบันเทิงคดีแนววิทยาศาสตร์ที่ใช้ในการศึกษาคือ The Windup Girl (2010) Lagoon (2014) และ Plum Rains (2018) จากการศึกษาวิจัยตัวบททั้งสามเล่ม ค้นพบว่าอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติในประเทศรอบนอกมักถูกกำหนดโดยรัฐ แฝงไปด้วยอคติทางความเชื่อและศาสนา และยังถูกใช้เป็นนโยบายเพื่อกีดกันคนในชาติไม่ให้เข้าถึงทรัพยากร ใน The Windup Girl รัฐบาลไทยใช้อัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติเพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือในการตัดขาดจากระบบทุนและความสัมพันธ์กับประเทศมหาอำนาจเพื่อรักษาสารัตถะของความเป็นชาติไว้ ส่วนโลกอนาคตอันใกล้ของ Lagoon ทำให้เห็นว่าอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติของประเทศไนจีเรียเกิดจากการผสมผสานของทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและประวัติศาสตร์ทางวัฒนธรรมที่หลากหลาย ทั้งยังเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่ไนจีเรียใช้ต่อรองกับระบบทุนนิยมโลก และช่วยขยายอำนาจจากศูนย์กลางออกไปสู่ประชาชนในประเทศ และสุดท้าย Plum Rains แสดงให้เห็นว่าอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติถูกกำหนดโดยปัจเจก และไม่ยึดโยงกับความเป็นชาติทั้งในเชิงพื้นที่ รัฐ หรือคนหมู่มากอีกต่อไป นอกจากนี้ บทบาทของตัวละครที่ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ซึ่งมักปรากฏในบันเทิงคดีแนววิทยาศาสตร์ยังได้เข้ามาช่วยรื้อฟื้นอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติในโลกอนาคตที่มีการครอบงำโดยประเทศมหาอำนาจและแนวคิดเสรีนิยมสมัยใหม่ การอยู่ร่วมกันของตัวละครที่เป็นมนุษย์และไม่ใช่มนุษย์ยังทำให้เกิดการตั้งคำถามต่อความเป็นสารัตถะของชาติและเชื้อชาติว่า สิ่งเหล่านี้จำเป็นต่อความอยู่รอดของมนุษย์หรือไม่ในวิกฤตยุคโลกาภิวัตน์และการขาดแคลนของทรัพยากร และยังแสดงให้เห็นว่าอัตลักษณ์ความเป็นชาติในอนาคตอันใกล้ไม่ได้มีมนุษย์เป็นศูนย์กลางเสมอไป

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิดเรื่องพลเมืองและรัฐประชาชาติสมัยใหม่ในนวนิยายกำลังภายในชุดฉู่หลิวเซียงและชุดลู่เสี่ยวเฟิ่งของกู่หลงในช่วงปลายทศวรรษที่ 1960 ถึงต้นทศวรรษที่ 1980 โดยศึกษาบริบททางการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ สังคมและวัฒนธรรมของสาธารณรัฐจีนบนเกาะไต้หวันในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวเพื่อแสดงให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ของบริบทต่าง ๆ กับแนวคิดเรื่องพลเมืองและรัฐประชาชาติที่ตัวละครเอกจอมยุทธ์เป็นตัวแทน จากการศึกษาพบว่าตัวละครเอกจอมยุทธ์นำเสนอแนวคิดที่สำคัญสำหรับการบ่มเพาะพลเมืองสมัยใหม่ในรัฐประชาชาติสมัยใหม่ อาทิ เหตุผลนิยม การปกครองด้วยกฎหมาย ความเป็นปัจเจกบุคคลและเสรีภาพผ่านปฏิสัมพันธ์กับตัวละครจอมยุทธ์อื่นที่ไม่คุ้นเคยหรือไม่สมาทานกับแนวคิดเหล่านี้ อย่างไรก็ตามการนำเสนอแนวคิดเหล่านี้ผ่านการกระทำของตัวละครเอกจอมยุทธ์ไม่มั่นคง ไม่ต่อเนื่องและมีข้อยกเว้นอยู่เสมอ ความลักลั่นย้อนแย้งของตัวละครเอกจอมยุทธ์แสดงให้เห็นถึงการปะทะสังสรรค์ระหว่างแนวคิดสมัยใหม่จากตะวันตกกับแนวคิดดั้งเดิมของจีนในกระบวนการทำให้ทันสมัย นอกจากนี้การเดินทางไปยังดินแดนต่าง ๆ ของตัวละครเอกจอมยุทธ์ยังทำให้หลายพื้นที่กลายเป็นพื้นที่ของชาวจีนฮั่น รวมทั้งสร้างเขตแดนของอาณาจักรของชาวจีนฮั่นที่คล้ายคลึงกับเส้นเขตแดนของสาธารณรัฐจีน รัฐประชาชาติสมัยใหม่ที่พรางตัวอยู่ในตัวบทนี้เป็นจักรวรรดิที่มีพื้นที่กว้างใหญ่ มีหลายชาติพันธุ์ โดยที่ชาวจีนฮั่นเป็นกลุ่มที่มีความสำคัญที่สุด ภาพดังกล่าวสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงแนวคิดชาตินิยมของสาธารณรัฐจีนบนเกาะไต้หวันภายใต้การนำของพรรคก๊กมินตั๋ง

This article analyzes the changes in The Handmaid’s Tale’s moral and political outlook as it tracks different forms of complexity in the novel, the film, and the TV series. While the sense of female empowerment increases with each adaptation of this tale of forced sexual servitude in fictional theocratic state of Gilead, the essay argues that Hulu’s TV series (created by Bruce Miller, 2017–) develops an intriguing interaction between the interiority of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel and the exteriority emphasized in Volker Schlöndorff’s 1990 film.
