La Escultura Urbana, Fernando Carrión Mena Arq. 2011 FLACSO, Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales. Sede Ecuador

La (In) Consulta, Fernando Carrión Mena

Sede Ecuador

¿Prevenir O Gobernar La Violencia?, Fernando Carrión Mena Arq.

The Impacts Of Road Capacity Removal, Jason E. Billings 2011 University of Connecticut - Storrs

The Impacts Of Road Capacity Removal, Jason E. Billings

Master's Theses

The road infrastructure of North America is aging, and many governments are faced with a critical decision: do we repair or remove freeways from our urban centers? Freeway repair is exceptionally expensive, but removing a freeway is widely seen as a risky venture which may result in negative traffic effects. Therefore, it is necessary to gain a clearer understanding of how removing road capacity effects traffic distribution. Three freeway segments were ultimately selected for case study analysis: two in San Francisco and one in Milwaukee. This analysis consisted of identifying changes in the traffic volumes and volume-capacity (V/C) ratios in …

La Consulta Popular En Su Tramo Final, Fernando Carrión Mena Arq. 2011 FLACSO, Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales. Sede Ecuador

Sustainable Industrial Design
Reclaiming a Brownfield in Greenfield, Massachusetts
Abstract:
For the senior capstone project at the University of Massachusetts, this student completed a conceptual site design project for the City of Greenfield. The City of Greenfield wishes to redevelop the Brownfield site, currently known as the Bendix Property, into an eco- industrial park. Working closely with the City’s officials, the student created a realistic vision for the site. After twenty years of soil and groundwater treatment, the site is ready to come back to life. The student investigated what an eco -industrial park is, and how the businesses cooperate …

Town Of Braintree - Monatiquot River Watershed Study, Benjamin D'Agostino, Elizabeth A. Englebretson, Carli Foster, Jeffrey Scott Fulford, Edward P. Haynes, Tracy Murphy, Sparky VonPlinsky, Eric Wojtowicz 2011 University of Massachusetts - Amherst

Town Of Braintree - Monatiquot River Watershed Study, Benjamin D'Agostino, Elizabeth A. Englebretson, Carli Foster, Jeffrey Scott Fulford, Edward P. Haynes, Tracy Murphy, Sparky Vonplinsky, Eric Wojtowicz

Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning Studio and Student Research and Creative Activity

Monatiquot River has played an important role in the Town of Braintree’s great industrial history. Over time, people’s relationship with the river has evolved from daily necessity and industrial utilitarian usage to scenery and recreational amenity. Currently, there is limited public physical access to the water and a lack of connection to regional greenway system. In addition, the extreme flood in March 2010 signified the prolonged urbanization impacts on floodplains and massive impervious surfaces in the watershed. Under the climate change effects, Braintree is likely to face more frequent and severe storms that affect safety and welfare of the increasing …

Infrastructured: Opportunistic Infrastructure, Urban Revitalization, And Socioeconomic Reconciliation At Boundaries In Downtown Syracuse, Ny., Nilus Klingel 2011 Syracuse University

Infrastructured: Opportunistic Infrastructure, Urban Revitalization, And Socioeconomic Reconciliation At Boundaries In Downtown Syracuse, Ny., Nilus Klingel

Honors Capstone Projects - All

The contention of this thesis is that large-scale infrastructures, such as highway systems, energy networks, or water supply complexes – as well as more abstract infrastructures, such as the infrastructures of capitalism or mercantilism – have, as the ‘harbingers’ of Modernity, an indelible impact upon the lives of the human beings who exist under their influence. Eradicating the traditional way of life that preceded them, these structures provide only one point of reference: the unknown future, in which the human struggles to find an identity.

Recent recuperations of infrastructures illustrate how the transformation of former agents of alienation can build …

Meeting The Challenges Of Educational Reform Through Spatial Design In The Twenty-First Century, Alwaleed Alshaibi 2011 Eastern Michigan University

Meeting The Challenges Of Educational Reform Through Spatial Design In The Twenty-First Century, Alwaleed Alshaibi

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

This paper looks into the issue of Saudi Arabia becoming an active player within globalization. The context of entering into globalization for Saudi Arabia is harnessing the tenets of higher education. In its history Saudi Arabia traditionally practiced gendersegregated education. Saudi Arabia has made a bold attempt in its education practice to allow coeducation to take place at one of their universities. This university seeks to become a global leader in the area of science and technology, thereby providing Saudi Arabia with the beginnings of a global city. Designing a global city out of a society with a gender-segregated lifestyle …
